cleaning the engine

Ok this might be a stupid question but here goes. I want to power wash my engine compartment soon. With all the salt this winter here in MA. I want to clean it good. I'll use some type of engine degreaser first then power wash it down. It's onlt a 1600 PSI washer. Is there anything I need to cover or be concerned about.
Thanks in advance.

Your owners manual shows a page of what to cover... or maybe it's the additonal diesel booklet for diesel engines???

Usually it's the electronic stuff and airfilter. I have washed mine off and the key is not to hold it in any one position and "force" water into small key areas. Just give it a gentle rising and slowy go over all areas 1 or 2 times.

Good luck,

Keep the nozzle back a piece from any electrical. The key is letting the degreaser do the work and the washer to RINSE off the loosened material.

I power washed my once and will never do it again. That wash job cost about $80. after I had to change my coil because it got wet and shorted out.

Just don't stick the nozzle of the power washer right against the the electrical components and you will be fine. I wash my engine a couple of times a year with the degreaser and have had no problems.

All I have ever used is Simple Green to clean my engines. 2000 Ex with a V10, I spray it with full strenght Simple Green and let it soak alittle, then just spray with a garden hose. Has always com very clean and doesn't leave that white resedue I always got with the spray engine cleaners.

I have always washed my engines at the car wash with the engine cleaner (looks like Simple Green), and prudent use and targeting pressure and direction without problems....
