I have a 1997 f-150 with a problem. The outside cab light won't
turn off. When I open either door and shut them, that light will stay on for hours. If I disconnect that fuse what else will I disconnect?
HELP
Also, if you interior light is on doesn't your outside light come on too? Try turning your dome light off with your switch. Since it is day, you probably don't notice it on. Try it out.
try lubing the doors with a spray lube...and check the switch...I am pretty sure that the dome and the cargo light work off the same wiring, and switchs. I dont think that they can operate independently of each other.
Lift the door handle and spray some wd40 into the slots inside the handle, do this on both doors and work the latches and this problem will go away quick.
The inside dome light and the outside light are both on. My
13 year old boy unscrewed the bulbs to that!!! I will try the WD.
I hope it works.
Thanks all!!
If the wd dont work, you will have to replace the switches. they run 70 dollars each and are quite labor intensive to change but it worth it because the problem it very annoying.
I don't know about the F150's but my 250 did the same thing. The drivers door switch was the problem. The switch cost me $7.00 and took all of ten minutes to fix. If you unplug the fuse, your speedometer will not work and if you have the electronic transmission, it won't shift either. There are many things hooked up to that fuse and one of them is the sensor for the speedo. That was my experience on my 94 model.
I dont know if disconnecting that fuse will shut down the speed o and tranny...that seems like a major engineering fault if its true. I think all of the interior lights and bed light are wired together and should have an independent fuse and switch, but I may be wrong. the manual will tell you for sure though.
My book only goes to 96 but all is the same on all F-series units including the Bronco. 97 could have been different but I promise, you'd be surprised what they wire together. On those F-series trucks the speedo sensor is in the rear axle housing. It drives the speedo and the speedo drives the transmission, after a fashion, and they all go through the same electrical fuse. Good luck!
wow....I am surprised, so basically you could blow a fuse because of a short in a light socket, and be stranded. thats is rediculous. good information to know...i got a lot of friends with older fords
Ford did some funny wiring, boy. In my '96 Explorer if you pulled the fuse for the interior lights (I used to sleep in it with the hatch open) the four wheel drive wouldn't work.
