Sounds like you deleted the partition, what OS are you using?

Could also be that the drive just went bad if you have two physical drives.

What is your D: drive? Is it an actual hard drive, a logical drive, a CD?

Sounds to me like you just need to reinstall it since it is a CD drive.

If it's a cd-rom drive, you can't erase it. If it doesn't show up, it's because either the drive has died or a cable has come loose. How old is the computer?

You can erase the driver software. ?

If thats the case, you may still have the floppy to reload, or can download from the internet.

Go to Start = Control Panel = Add/Remove Hardware. From there, there should be an option to add or re-install the CDROM drive. There may be a generic driver built into 98 that will let you re-install the CD-ROM, if not, then you'll have to go search for the driver files that you need. Look for a brandname or model number on the CD-ROM and then just plug that into google or your favorite search engine. You shouldn't have any problems finding drivers.

Win98 has its own cd-rom driver, does not need a floppy to reload a driver.

I would have to go with the comment that maybe the wire got disconnected or that it is disabled. Most of all CD drives are plug and play, no drivers just insert and go. Your device manager will be able to give some insight if the system even acknowledges its existence. Check ad see if it shows up and then go from there.
