Some how I have managed to erase my D: drive. My PC states this drive is no longer available. I go to DOS and the same thing. How I erased it I dont know. How can I reinstall it.
Thanks in advance.
If it's a cd-rom drive, you can't erase it. If it doesn't show up, it's because either the drive has died or a cable has come loose. How old is the computer?
Go to Start = Control Panel = Add/Remove Hardware. From there, there should be an option to add or re-install the CDROM drive. There may be a generic driver built into 98 that will let you re-install the CD-ROM, if not, then you'll have to go search for the driver files that you need. Look for a brandname or model number on the CD-ROM and then just plug that into google or your favorite search engine. You shouldn't have any problems finding drivers.
Been so long since I've used win98. I cant remember if it even worked. I've got a win95 system, I know it doesnt work, the 2000 version, I think it works. LOL WinXP, not sure it ever worked.
I would have to go with the comment that maybe the wire got disconnected or that it is disabled. Most of all CD drives are plug and play, no drivers just insert and go. Your device manager will be able to give some insight if the system even acknowledges its existence. Check ad see if it shows up and then go from there.
