The downside of degreasing a motor is using a pressure washer to finish the job. As anyone with a motorcycle will tell you...DO NOT USE HIGH PRESSURE. Why! Because it will get into electrical plugs and screw things up. At the best using low pressure you can RINSE it off holding the wand a fair distance away and it will start and run fine. Often it will start hard, run rough till it dries out. Worse case you might short something out.
Me, I rinse motors off of most everything I drive. Sometimes I'm lucky...sometimes I have to dry the cap and rotor. Sometimes when I do my bike it gets to be a real pain to start.

So you flip a coin and choose. Some people say never ever, I say you can as long as you are aware and don't use high pressure.

Just make sure you rinse it off very good and cover everything up that can get water in it. I always start the vehicle up when done so everything dries out. I use high pressure but stay further back in areas where the are electronics. Good luck!

P.S. Use the gunk engine degreaser, works great!

I dont ever degrease my engines cold. I spray on the degreaser after I run it around the block, then shut it off to spray on the degreaser. then after letting it soak in, I idle the engine while rinsing, so that I know it wont stay wet for too long, also it kinda ads a steam cleaning effect.

I would never do this to a HOT engine. just slightly warm.

one time I got water down the throat of the throttle body, and the motor ran really bad! off the the side of the opening theres an area that I guess the sensors live? I dunno for sure, but there was standing water in there. after I dried it our with rags, it ran perfect again.

water got in there cause of my K&N cone filter upgrade attached directly to the throttle body. I guess those filter afford no protection from moisture! if my van had the stock intake on it I am sure the water would have never got into the throttle body!

fyi

I did this yesterday. I got some simple green automotive degreaser and sprayed down the cold engine. I let it sit for ~10 minutes, and then went back with the hose (not on the highest pressure, but medium) and hosed it off. Looks pretty good now.
