After putting in new plugs and wires i fueled my truck and just now filled her up again,270.5 mi and 19.112 gl of gas = 14.1534 MPG and i don't drive it hard but i do let it run in the mornings for about 3-4 minutes and i only drive a couple miles to and from work so my speed is kinda slow,is there anything else i need to check about the mileage ?,part of that mileage was running into dallas looking for a few things but mostly on the freeway not in town, any clues ?.
Thanks
I have a 88 F250 300 six 5spd 2wd geared high that gets 18mpg Our 99 F250 2wd auto 5.4 4.10 gears gets 14 mpg Our 2000 F350 powre stroke 4x4 drw 9 ft rack body gets 20 mpg it also has a 6spd 4.10 Our 2004 F250 5,4 6spd 4x4 pickup 3.73 gets 16mpg I think when you keep the RPMs down they get the mileage that I said. But when you pour the RPMs to them they get less. I think it is all in the driving. plus keeping them up like oil change every 2000 miles keeping them tuned up ect ect.
Changing the oil is good, but every 2000 miles????
My ford manual says every 5000, but i still cahnge it at 3000. When you change it you do get slightly better mieage, but you spend $20 every time you change it.
what all is covered by a tune up?
What do u do when you tune it up?

If i'm not mistaken your 88 ford has a carb,my 91 F150 inline 6 auto/od had fuel injection and 14 mpg was good on a good day but usually somewhere a little over 12 1/2 to 13 MAX and i drive my ranger the same miles about every week and i was expecting better mileage from it,unless there is something wrong.
one way to save gas.............go diesel..........serisly, iwish they would make a ranger diesel option again, somewhere around 250 cubic inches in a in-line four cyl. the 88 2.3 i had years ago would get around 28 when i first got it, it was a s/c with 5-spd, 3.73 gearing 2wd. after i added acessories like a cap, grill guard and had overhauled the motor at 140,000 it would get about 23 at best.
Its supposed to help fuel milage, says EPA lab tested and approved. I have been toying with the idea of getting one, and if it does not work, send it back.
Yep there is a reson for changeing the oil every 2000 miles And the reson is I want to keep the block clean. Also I have not had to replace a motor. Now the Power Stroke we have gets changed every 3000 miles.
Hey 78fordman, if you get one of those be sure to let us know how it works. I was thinkin about it too...., I'm gonna wait untill i find somthing else to order, otherwise its 21.99+like 10-15$ shipping.
Guys the thing from whitney is junk, pure snake oil so save your money. If ya really want to throw it away you can send to me (VBG).
As to changing oil at 2000 if you want to fine, I use 3000 and mine is almost as clean when it comes out as when it went in. It just depends again how much $$ you want to spend. Iuse 3000 on my motorcycles that are water cooled, 1500 - 2000 on the harley.
Hank85713, the thing from JCW is made out of plastic and a magnet, it is not an additive. I'm sure it has to have some truth to it if it was EPA tesed and approved, the only question is what was it approved for.
Originally posted by sglaine Sorry guy but the 88 is a fuel injected they started that in 87.
Sorry about that but i was close ,your the first one i have heard that gets that kind of mileage with the inline injected 6 banger, the next best was 16 mpg ONE TIME then it dropped to 14,even the dealer couldn't make it get any better.
