WHAT coasting isnt legal, why not? like theres a red light, so you just take the foot off the gas, and you get a ticket for it? How did this become a law and why?

Jessfactor, just remember that coasting isn't legal everywhere, at least not here in iowa, but i have done it for a long time. Besides, how would the cops know if you are free wheeling unless they are in the truck with you? right?
Alright, I live in Iowa. You've gotta be swerving and driving drunk to get pulled over "coasting." No where I know of is there a law about coasting. I have family that are lawmen around here and i've never heard of that.

OK, i figured it out. When you are "coasting" at about 75-80 mph you will get pulled over and your gas mileage will be crap.

Maybe coasting on an interstate where the speed limit is 70 or something. Somebody was pulling your chain.

The best milage I have gotten was 22, and that was all highway, doing 75 w/cruise. But I usually get around 14-16mph. Mostly all city driving.

What do you guys mean by coasting? I think there's some miscommunication.

What is this freewheeling?

There is a difference between "coasting" and just not pressing the gass or brake. Coasting refers to putting the gear in neutral, which is illegal (because it is dangerous if you need to make a sudden move or reaction and have no power). I think that's the confusion.

Lightbulb Freewheeling

Freewheelin's where you disengage the clutch and just rely on vehicle momentum to get you to the stoplight.

Wow, I've got a 4x4 4.0L v6 and I get about 12mpg. But it's winter, and I let it sit for about half an hour everymorning warming up. Anywho, changing your oil (go lighter if you're using like a 10w-30 or so). I hear that changing the trans. fluid does the trick too. Duel exhaust helps too. Change fuel filters, air filters etc.

Also, put big sails in the bed. Use them on windy days instead of the engine.

fuel power

try using fuel power by lube control. By far the best fuel additive I have ever seen. Terry Dyson has tested and agrees www.lubecontrol.com

It isn't "illegal", i can't really think of a situation where power will get away from danger. I can only think of sticking the brake pedal to floor to save you or swerve. Flooring the gas just gets ya in more trouble. I'd rather have someone hit me, than me hit them. Saves on my insurance

where are you from ejpreston?

Coasting is an infraction, but the problem would be unless the cop is in your car, it's near impossible to prove....The most obvious gas saver is going easy on the gas....A good quality injectory cleaner is a good bet as well....
