LOUD...Glass Packs????

I have a 99 F-150 Lariat, 5.4L. This past summer I installed a Gibson Extreme Dual Exhaust System in it. It was not as loud as I had hoped for, although it did boost my preformance a lot, i was still looking for a louder tone.

I am looking at glass packs right now. I was wanting to know should I get a glass pack to put on it, and if I could still keep my pipes from the Gibson Exhaust?

I dont know much about glass packs and if they are loud..?...or too loud...?...Or what I want...? I want a good loud sound while my truck is at idle and when I get on it.
So any help or information on what I could do to get my truck louder i would appreciate.

Thanks, Jordan

Welcome to FTE! Personally, I do not like the sound of glasspacks. When the fiberglass packing breaks down (always happens, normally relatively shortly), the exhaust tone can change from a throaty V8, to more of a raspy V8. You should check out http://www.exhaustsoundclips.com/ford.html They have some 5.4l examples. If it were me, I would stay away from 'packs, and go with a standard muffler. I loved the Bassani muffler I had on my bronco. As for if you could keep the Gibson pipes, that entirely depends on what size whatever muffler you choose comes in. Even if it was off slightly, any reputable gas station or professional exhaust shop should be able to rebend or cut the pipes to make everything work.

What Exhaust would be better?

I want a loud tone at the idle and when i get up on it....i dont want it to sound ***** either...i want a good deep, rumbling tone in it...
I want to keep my pipes from the gibson exhaust...i want somthing that is pretty easy to get, install and cheap, but sounds good!!
Any Infromation would be great.

Well by far, a glasspack will be youre cheapest route. They can run as cheap as 20. I dont know how the length will compare with youre current muffler, but that can easily be fixed by getting a length of pipe fabbed up at an exhaust shop. If you dont like it, youre only out 20+adapter. If you love it, problem solved!

Honestly, I dont know much about glasspacks because I dont really like them. You might want to use the search function here in the exhaust forum for glasspacks. I know they come up pretty frequently.

Cherry Bomb is a brand name of a glasspack. One muffler I didnt mention before is the Dynomax race bullet muffler. It is super high flow and loud. http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerc...26&prmenbr=361 I have run them before, and they are definately loud. If you want, we can hop over into the live chat (upper right hand corner). Also, if you have AIM, you can contact me @'doomford'.

hey wheelMA1 i am currently thinking of replacing the glasspacks on my 1979 f 150 and putting on new ones. currently it has some fairly old about 24 inch or so glasspacks. it is not quite loud enough for me. i have not even thought about the race muffler like you have mentioned. how does it compare to a short glasspack in sound?

The Dynomax will be loud, guaranteed. From what I remember, a short glasspack has a quick, raspy tone. The dynomax will sound like straight pipes pretty much. You might want to get in touch with 'AKford351'. He is currently running that muffler, and should be able to tell you what he thinks of it. I havent run/heard that muffler for a good 5 years now.

You need to go into youre settings and enable it. That little picture is called youre avatar. They have to be ridiculously small though. I think 60x60 pixels is the max.

Quick edit: Top of the page is where youre settings tab is. Once in, go to 'edit options'.

Yeah I'm currently running a Race Bullet and it sounds good and is fairly loud, but much much mellower than straight pipes.
Here's what my truck sounds like:

Also a Flowmaster would sound great on your 5.4l as well. My dad has a Flowmaster 40 Series DF on his truck and I almost like his better than mine.
Here's what his sounds like:
