Ok i had duals put on my bronco, and they angle out the sides. My question is why is my bumper turning black on the corners. I know my exhaust is right there and is what is doing it, but does that mean im burning something or something wrong with it? Both corners are equally black, does anyone have any reason for this?
Oh i know this probably shouldve went into the exhaust forum, but not many ppl answer there.
Hmmm, how close are your mufflers to your bumper? The engine and exhast system may not be working right and a bunch of normally controlled fumes and gases aren't getting stopped. My pipes come out the sides at a 45 degree angle and I haven't a problem with it, except when I was rearended and the bumper was shoved really close to the tips (See Gallery). Then the bumper turned black before I got it replaced (ins. co's ) With that said I think your exit postion is just too close to the bumper. Hope this helps you dude. -William
Look inside the pipe.If it is a light gray ,it usually means everything is normal. If it appears black or sooty, something may not be working properly ,such as a sticking choke, oil consumption, carb out of adjustment. These are the first things I look for. There are more things to check, but these are a start.Thats only if the tips aren't too close to start with.Good luck.
The inside of my tips are black, but ive never seen an exhaust that wasnt. The tips are about 5 inches from my bumper. The drivers side is blacker than the passenger side, but then the passenger side tip sticks out about an inch more than the drivers side. Also note that the truck doesnt use any oil, and it has 185k miles and no cats on the exhaust.
I admit I don't have a vechical newer than 89 but it always worked for me.A mechanic pointed that out to me years ago and it always seemed to be true.Any vechical that used oil or ones that run a little rich always left a black film on my bumper.I guess you can disreguard my suggestion.
Guess I lied bout my pipes, washed the truck today and both sides of bumper are dirty from exhast. Anyone found a good chrome cleaner product for this? Guess that's what I get for running my mouth, lol. -wb
So is it anything to really worry about or just get a black bumper so i wont notice it as much? lol
I do have a new concern after tonight. As stated before im not running cats and i have dual glasspacks. Well tonight i was sitting up town, had it in park and reved it up a couple of times without letting it die down between revs. When i did this my friends saw a quick flame flash from my driver side pipe (dont know about the passenger side cause nobody was over there, lol). So to make for sure we saw what we thought we did i reved it again, and sure enough another flame flash came out. What would cause this and could it be doing any harm when doing this?
autozone has o2's for about $30-45 also you can purchase a 02 socket for $10.00 it has slot at the top to allow wire to pass thru.i bought the bosch 02 sensor brand for $45. you might look here on this web site's sponsers and see what kind of deal they have.
