ditto, the cats would calm those flames if they were there, and the black is just a little bit of carbon or slight richness that would probably not be easy at all to adjust out. leave it be and have fun.
"The flames are just unburnt fuel from getting on and off the gas too quickly passing through the exhaust and lighting, again, nothing I'd worry about."
If its a 90 model with fuel injection it is running to rich. The result is poor fuel mileage, and less then optimum power. Anytime (in a street car) raw fuel is makin its way out the exhaust you have a problem that needs addressed.
Fuel injected or not, if you stomp on the gas like you described, IMHO you're going to pass unburnt fuel through the engine, rich/lean or otherwise. When you've got straight pipes like that, you're going to see the flash.
Check into by all means, but personally, I wouldn't worry about it.
Thats only with a carb, an FI vehicle has to build up pressure, the computer is fast enough that it can retard timing enough that raw fuel will not make it out.
It is a 90 model, and it is fuel injected. What do i need to check out? It does seem that the gas mileage has went down. I dont know about lost of power cause it still has plenty of that.
You say i have a problem that needs to be addressed. What would that problem be and how could i fix it.
