wheel hop

hi everyone, i have a 1990 f250 with a horrible case of wheel hop. it hops on dry pavement, wet pavement, mud, gravel, dirt, anything! i have friends with the exact same truck that have no problem. on guy says that my leafs are weak from the heavy loads the previous owner hauled and that a spring re-arc will cure the wheel hop. theres no sag in the back end and the truck sits level so i dont know. anyone else had this problem??? how do i fix it? as for a spring re arc do i just bring the springs in and say re arc these back to stock?

If the truck is sitting level when empty, it's actually sagging, since those trucks sat about 2 inches higher in the rear when stock and unloaded. However, I dont know that that condition would cause what you're describing.

How are your rear shocks? Is this happening when in 2wd on a smooth road, or is it a washboard or otherwise bumpy road? When you go over a bump does the thing keep bouncing up and down like a spring-- boing, boing... that would indicate worn out shocks.

I get wheelhop on bumpy roads when unloaded in the F350 and used to get it in my old Chevy dually and old Chevy 3/4 ton as well. That's just the nature of stiffly sprung heavy duty trucks when unloaded and driven on bumpy and especially washboarded roads.

With the old Dodge 1/2 ton I didn't get that because the truck had a softer suspension, the axle didn't weigh as much, and I had a camper shell that gave it some weight back there.

I would think that if your shocks are good and your rear springs are a little worn, the ride would actually improve a bit over a stiffer newer spring...

check your steering stabilizer , if you are running other than stock wheels ,or even stock , that could be your problem , the only other thing would be tie rod ends , id bet money on the stabilizer though,up here they call it snow plow shakes, bob

make sure your steering stabilizer is not loose. it was loose on my 79 f 150 and it would shake you to death sometimes

How would the steering stabilizer affect the rear wheels?
