I've never heard of this too and would like to have some ammo in my hand when I go get the new ride. I'll check out this link....

This post talks in depth about the Rebate Program but they don't give any details. They just talk about emailing the info back and forth to each other....

Yea I see that and I really didn't care about the perticulars untill now....I'm going to cross the rebate line with my order this time.

I found a new dealer and I'm sitting down with the Sales dude and ordering my truck again Monday morning. One thing that I liked when talking to him was that out of the blue he says that Ford now has a Rebate Protection Program....one less thing I have to cry about. So I know it's there, just got to get the details.....I will be sure to post my findings....

Better luck with the new one! Are you getting the same truck? I thought that I read somewhere that you planned to change some things...anything major?

I'm ordering early in the week, too if the the salesguy calls me with the right #'s. BTW...fmc's upped the $2500 rebate to $3000 for 'truck month'.

I'd be real interested in any details you get on the RPP, my salesguy hasnt admitted knowing anything about it.

Did you get a chance to drive anything yet? Just curious to see if you decided on a drive train package.

I'm going to show my stupidity here and assume that the drive train is the 3.73ls/4.10ls?? (I'm trying real hard to get all this straight...bear with me)

I haven't decided on either yet b/c at the same price, I still don't know if one is better than the other. Will it affect the towing capabilities or just 4x4 purposes? I don't do much towing, but I do expect to be the truck pulling the *other* buried trucks out of the sand now.

So far I have decided on the following:

Black '04 250SD XLT Crew 4X4 6 3/4'
fx4
sport pkg (blackout)
5.4L V8 Auto
3.73ls or 4.10ls
LT 265/75Rx16E OWL A/T's
4X4 elec. shift on the fly
Trailer tow mirrors w/power heated glass & integ. clearance lights and turn sig's
moonroof

....and I am leaning on the dealer to let me have it for $30K incl. ttl. (i'm thinking i have some real high hopes here, but what the heck- cant hurt, huh?)

The rebate protection is something that the dealer can (operative word "can") apply for once you have the vin# from the factory. Not all dealers are willing for some reason. The guy I was going to order my truck from couldn't be bothered going through the process so I said sayonara . . . I'm sure Cochise will do it if you are using him.

Just have your dealer look up the Rebate/ Rate Order Protection Program. Once a VIN is assigned, he can go in and lock in any rebate on your vehicle that's at least 30 days in duration. So, the quickie, 1-week "bonus" rebates aren't eligible.

Hope this helps

Lookin4a250-

I'll try to clarify the rear end question for you. Let's say you chose a 5.4L with the automatic transmission. I'm going to use hypothetical situations so please don't hold me to any of this as fact, it's just to help you understand. Ok, so say you on the highway doing 65 mph. With the 3.73's you may be running about 2,000 RPM's on the tachometer and with the 4.10's you may be running 2,400 RPM's. This means your engine is turning faster for the same speed and thus using more gas. In this scenario the 3.73's will give you better fuel economy. Now let's say your at a light and a guy pulls along side of you in a Camaro and he wants to race. When the light turns green the 4.10 gears will launch the truck from a standing stop better then the 3.73's so you would outrun the camaro (also b/c it's a Chevy). The 4.10's will make the truck seem faster. Finally, let's say your towing a trailer up a hill. Remember the from above the 4.10 gears make the engine run at a higher RPM then the 3.73's while running at the same speed . Engine torgue (different then horse power) is what helps the truck climb the hills and since the engine produces more torgue when the RPM's are high, the truck will climb the hill much easier. This scenario is also where the extra torque of the V10 or the PSD would help.

Now, from what you've been saying in the posts I'm guessing your not towing too much. I also guess you probably won't be drag racing, right? If all this is true, then your probably going to want the 3.73's for the better fuel economy. You will still have plenty of power for the daily routine and the gear ratio won't really effect your beach prowess so I think the best choice for you is the 3.73's. YOU do definately want the limited slip rear. This will help when on the beach.

Let me know if you have any more questions.....

alfie-

You're right, the 3.73ls sounds better for me.

Thanks for taking the time to explain this so that I better understand the options I have. That's what I came to this forum for, and I haven't been let down. At this rate, I may sometime even be able to answer some questions rather than only ask.

I owe all you guys a round of cold ones, but I'd hate to start a bud vs. miller debate....

From things that I have seenover at www.flatratetech.com, I would be VERY VERY leary of dealing with ANY AutoNation dealership. I would NEVER get near one for service, especially as a woman. (Please see the posts at flatrate).

Much good advice has been given here. I have had a 98 F250 XLT SC w/ short box & now have a 03 6.0 psd XLT SC long bed. Personal opinons:

The 5.4 will be a gutless wonder trying to pull the others out of the sand.

My V10 got 11.5 m/g always, no matter what. It was smooth, quite, powerfull. But it got 11.5 m/g.

The new diesel gets 17.5. Diesle fuel now costs about 0.06-0.10 /g less then 87octane around here. There is also the ability to run bio diesel, which is MUCH friendlier to America's economy & environment (I don't like giving OPEC terrorists any more of my money than I possibly can).

I feel that the diesle at this time was the best thing for me, and I like that my milage is better, the fuel is less harmful, and I can pull anything else out of the sand.

Good luck, just please don't give any money to the AutoNazi dealers.

Yikes...AutoNation owns the dealership I've been working with. I'll go check out flatratetech.com. Man, I'd hate to have to start all over with a new dealer.

Thanks for the info
