My older brother wants to sell his 86 ranger as soon as it gets fixed to get an old truck, and he already said it would be a Ford. Knowing him he's gonna want something 4wd, manual transmission, and quick(he's always bragging about his races, and I think he's the first person to take a stock ranger past 90 and blow the speedo). Of course if he's buying a truck speed isn't the most important thing, but it's always nice to have. Snow traction and reliability are probably the most important parts since there's 4wd school buses where he lives, and he drives the hell out of anything he owns. Do you have any advice for him?
Your Brother can't go wrong with an old Ford Hi-Boy. Find one without a motor for a little cheaper, and drop in a 460. should solve all his speed problems.
Thanks everyone, I'll tell him what you said. Reliability comes before speed with him, all he does is talk about how screwed up everything after 79 is with cars. His goal is to find a 77 bronco to fix up, if he wants speed that bad he'll probably wait to fix up the bronco.

I have had my '84 F150 300 I6 up to 90+ and my '95 runs great at 80 and surely would do much more. As for speed and a 300, how about one of the original Broncos, the one about the size of a jeep. Those used to come with 302 V8s and I bet a 300 I6 dropped into that lightweight Bronco with the right axle gears would really fly!
