I just searced for the Ford Ranger Thunderbolt. I didnt think ford would actually make something called the thunderbolt but apparently they did or are planning on it. It is supposidly tuned by slp, the f-body guys. Its has a big non-functional hood scoop, and a ground effects package.
Yeah, it's a sweet truck. It has 222 hp. We had one at our local Ford dealership in the shwo room. It was soooo beautiful The only thing I didn't like was the non-functional hood scoop. I thought that was kind of stupid but that's just my opinion. Check it out if you can sometime. It's a mini-lightning.
Calling it the Thunderbolt is kinda BS though, the original thunderbolt was a fiberglass'd front end, 427 powered ford in the early 60's... the ranger doesnt deserve that name
I like SVT's idea of the Thunderbolt a lot better. "Ranger" supercab with the 390 hp 5.4 V8 from the Lightning. Only a "let's see what we can do with these extra parts" project truck though. No hope of SVT building one.
Don't get me started on name-deservance. When the new 'Mach 1' Mustang performs like a 428-powered 69 with the drag pack, I'll shut up. And 222 hp isn't that much of an increase over the 207 in my FX4. ADd a chip and a few mods and I'll be up there, and still probably be quicker off the line. Those dang 31" AT's sure got a good grip to them, especially on asphalt (when all 4 are spinning )...
I agree with momudder, the new Mach is nice, but for the price of a new one, you could get a nicely restored '69 428 with some real power. The 5.4 Thunderbolt is a pretty sick idea though.
