i found a 1975 ford supercab with a 390 and a c-6 trans with a 3.00 non locking rear axle the truck is 4x2 doe you think it is smart to buy the truck and also how rare is this truck the guy wants 2000 do you think it would be a good hauler
How much do you want to haul with it? I have a 76 same setup. I pulled a 72 mustang on a u-haul trailer, combined weight approx 6000 lbs. It pulled comfortably but was about the limit of what I would recommend. Also it was an all day trip through Conneticut. There were a couple of decent grades on the trip.
For heavy duty, every day hauling I would want a 250 or better. Heavier brakes, lower rear gear etc.
2000 seems ok for the truck if it is in good shape. If you want it for an occasional hauler, I'd go for it. I've hauled several loads of bricks (sidewalk 4'wide X 80' long), sand, bovine by-product. Never had a complaint.
i got my 75 supercab ranger for $1200, it had a built 390, with a manual tranny.
however it threw a rod 7 days after I bought it. I frankenstined a 351 windsor and auto tranny out of a 70's LTD sedan, I got the car for $200 and it only had 76,000 miles on it.
it pulls my 3200 lb travel trailer fine now with the 351 in it. I am sure it would have hauled way better with the 390. too bad I didnt get the chance to find out!
