'90 F250 Leaf Spring Thickness
I have a '90 F250 4x4 Supercab with a 351 Engine. The GVW is 8800 LBS. It is the heavier duty F250 with a Dana 60 Rear and a Dana 50 IFS Front Suspension.
The kid that I bought it from has a 4" lift on it, and I would like to replace the lift with a stock suspension for driveability reasons.
Does anyone know the thickness of the stock front leaf springs? 1.45" or 2.03"? I think they are a 2 spring arrangement. I assume the thicker springs were for the diesel, but am not sure. I would like to pick some up tonight If I could.
Thanks,
Jeff
With any luck you'll be able to finance most of the restoration to stock by selling off the lift stuff.
Check out the thread "front springs" for a little more info. If you find any good sources for springs, let us know.
PS: You can find out how to ID the kind of rear end you have on the web. I think mine's a Dana 60. 10 cover bolts is a Dana 60. 10.25 is 12.....just got that off the web so it must be true!!!!

My door tag:
Springs: 7 F
Front GAWR: 3920 LBS
Rear GAWR: 6084 LBS
GVWR: 8800 LBS
WB: 155
TYPE-GVW: X268
Door Tag on Possible Doner Truck:
Springs: 6 6
WB: 133
Type: F-261
GVWR: 6800 LBS
The springs on the doner truck are 1.45" thick, two leaf and the spring eyes are the same length, so they will physically fit into my front end.
I guess there were two different thicknesses, 1.45" and 2.03". Can anyone tell me from the above info, what front springs I need? I tried the search function, but could not find any info. I want to keep my truck as heavy duty as it was equipped from the factory.
Thanks,
Jeff
P.S. How bad does it drive now?
It drives just fine. No problems. I just will be using it as my daily driver, and it is difficult to get in and out of. Plus, the tires are robbing some power. I like the feel of 4:10 gears and tires the size of LT265's or so. I will be pulling trailers on occasion and like the more maneageable tires and lower gears. I have an Early Bronco for 4 Wheeling, and this truck is so big that it can't get out of its own way.
PLUS... My wife and I are expecting our first child, so getting in and out will become a more pronounced problem.
Anyway, I have researched spring codes, and it appears that code 7 is 2820 lbs per spring, and code 6 is 2575 lbs per spring. There is also a code 9, which is 3486 lbs. I'm sure those are the thicker springs. The local junkyard has the code 6 springs, which I might try.
The truck is in awesome shape. The original two tone black and blue shines like new and the interior is flawless. It is an XLT Lariat with all of the options at the time.
Thanks for the help! I do think I can sell the lift kit and 35's with 30% tread locally.

just kidding man
the hospital people nurses just looked at me kind of funy when i pulled up with my truck, 35's and all, when my first son was born almost 4 years ago. they looked at me odd still when i picked up my second son a year and a half ago. Plus the fact that my wife is only 5'2. i took a little stool with me when i went back to get them, she laughed so hard, then ended up smacking me for making her hurt.

Here's just a bit of carseat info for you... rear facing car seats (even the carrier type with the stay in base) only fit in the middle (with bucket seats) and forward facing fit wherever, behind the driver is tight if you are taller and need to extend the seat the whole way back, my son kicks my seat whn i dont anser him by the 3rd time he asks to stop at mcdonalds
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
Thanks for the info. I do have the front buckets, so hopefully the rear facing will work in the center rear. I did a little research on this before buying. As far as the lift, my better half actually likes it. I might just keep it and the 35's around in case I don't like the smaller tires afterall, or if I (gasp) have to buy an SUV someday and retire the truck for weekend service.
Of course, we also have her Subaru Forrester for a little more practicality.
The monster truck is kindof fun. It is a challenge to park at grocery stores, and people in smaller cars think twice about turning left in front of you! Haha. I'm starting to get hooked on it. So far, I have driven about 250 miles, and both my gas tanks are empty. I think my speedo and Odo are about 20% off, but that's still not very stellar mileage. But, that's not what we buy them for.
