What color is it? Bought my truck used. Got 41K on it now. Want to change my trans. fluid. I'm not sure if the previous owner changed it. I can tell when my other vehicle's dexron was dirty but not this stuff. Can anyone help? Thanks
Just like all the "old" trannies, it uses plain old Mercon fluid. I'd highly recommend a drain & fill of Mobil 1 full synthetic. Lot's of people touting the advantages of these new "flush" systems where they hook a big pot of fluid into the cooler lines and feed new fluid in while draining the old stuff out. Unfortunately, this method (usually) doesn't involve changing the filter.

Crap, I gotta go next Wed. then. Do I really need to go to a "suck and pump" place if I got drain plugs for the TRQ converter and the transmission? I don't want to pay for a "service" that is something I don't need. Some of the guys around here charge extra for that.
As for Mobil 1, thanks for the recommendation, NoMo. That was my next post...
Yup, it's clear. If it is suppose to look like transmission fluid (i.e. red), it sure doesn't. Strange...I know what transmission fluid looks like and when I checked it I didn't think anything of it. I just figured this was special Ford stuff. I didn't know the difference between Mercron and Mercon V (the two mentioned in the manual) and assumed that it was normal. Problem is, there is no problem! It smells fine (not burnt) and the truck shifts great! (Firm and quiet) I guess I'll change it just so I know exactly what's in there. Thanks for the input!
