Tire size

I know this has probably been answered to death but I can't find it. I have a 1999 F-250 4x4 SC SB V10 with 37,500 miles and it is totally stock. What is the maximum size tire I can install on this beast without a lift? I'm also replacing the wheels so stock rim size shouldn't matter. I am running 4.30 gears with an automatic and would like to get the R's down a little. Thanks for the help and for the info to help make my decision to purchase my baby!!!

Thanks
Scott

285/75R16- absolutely no problem
295/75R16- may rub a little tight in turns & under full-compression.
315/75R16- will rub... need to do a little trimming, but can be made to work OK
BIGGER- need a lift

Check the tire manufacturer's website for recommended rim widths.

Thanks for the info guys! NOMO, how much trimming are you talking about and where? I would love to run the 315's. Fabtech has some shackle drop brackets for the front that is supposed to level the truck. If the front is what will do the rubbing, will these prevent that by raising it 3.5 inches? Check out the info at http://www.4wheelparts.com/product2.asp?imseqn=1824&occlass=Fab&cat=SUS

Thanks
Scott

I've got a truck almost exactly like yours, the difference being I have 3.73's. I've ran Goodyear P305's since I got the truck with no problems. I believe if the truck is levelled, you could put 315's on it. I have ran my 305's on the stock rims and now have them on 16x8 Mickey Thompson Challengers. The Mickey's are of the "hub-centric" type required for this truck and allow the re-use of the stock lug nuts and center caps keeping the cost down. The additional inch of width is on the outside. I can E-mail you a picture of the truck with the rims/tires if you like.

Seems the people who had done it were trimming the bumper valance (spoiler/airdam/whatever you call it), the inner fenders, and crimp welds. Honestly though, "how much" & "where" really depends on the offset of the rims you buy.

I think you'll run into the same issues with rubbing. Besides, I'd really recommend checking the weight rating of those tires. A SD is a heavy beast all by itself. Those "rubber bands" are usually just barely rated to carry an empty F150. :P

I would like an email picture of your truck and wanted to know if you had problems (bad wear) with 305's on 16X7 stock rims
