I took my 3 speed trans out of a 56 f100 to be cleaned and and have new bearings and seals put in. I got parts from NPD for a light duty ford trans with no overdrive and the parts aren't correct. Are there any markings or anything to ID the trans so I can get the correct parts? Thanks for any help!
Hi
I'm not sure what the casting number is and I think he said one of the bearings wouldn't fit and one did fit. (the bearings I ordered for front and rear were the same). Can I tell from the casting number? I can get it if I need to.
Yes, the case number will help. The Parts CD shows that in 56 the Medium duty trans was also a "remote control" (column shift) trans.
You are much better off dealing with VanPelt Sales for tranny stuff, but you absolutely need the trans ID'd by at least case number first. www.vanpeltsales.com
There should be a number on the bearings that can be matched too.
The light duty transmissions were side loaded Ford transmissions. The 1956 medium duty transmission is also side loaded, a Borg-Warner T89. That transmission is top loaded. You have the heavy duty 3 speed, a Borg-Warner T87.
The clutch linkage anchor appears to be on the side plate? Look at the BH bolt pattern too, longer dimension is vertical. The drain also. I think it's a side-loader.
