I am trying to buy a set of headers for my 1997 F250 HD 460 Manual. I keep getting the question "with air injection?". Now at first I said no because I don't know what that means but after taking a peak at the engine I can account for all the accessories except one. On the lower front passanger side is one component I cannot explain. Could it be the air pump? What is air injection? What does it do? and what can I do with it to make it go faster?

Pumps air into the exhaust before the cat to aid in complete combustion. I took my pump and cat off of my 460 and just got a shorter belt. If you have testing you probably want to keep it all intact.

 

I also got rid of my pump and cat and run no air-injection. But like said above if you emissions testing you will want to keep the system working, you might be able to pass without it though, depending on how strict the testing is.
