Rear End Sag

I have a 2000, F150, Super-Cab, 4X4. Whenever I put any kind of load in it or pull a trailer with any toung weight, the rear end really sags. I am getting ready to make a cross country trip with both a loaded bed and trailer, so I am looking for the best way to level the truck. I am trying to avoid overload springs necause they would stiffen the ride when unloaded. I have not been able to find any air-shocks that fit this truck. Do any Forum members have any suggestions?

Chilibill,

It sounds like airbags may help your situation. You may want to check with Napa, Autozone or some other automotive store.

Hope this helps,

Tim

chilbill,

what kind of load are you pulling, a boat, horse trailer, or whatever? What ever you are pulling make sure that the weight is balenced on the trailer, so the tounge does not have all the weight on it.

just make sure that you dont exceed the maximum gross weight for the truck and trailer.

Rear End Sag

Brian,

Thanks for the advice. The rear end of the truck drops when loaded with only a couple hundred pounds. I hope to haul several hundred pounds and tow a cargo trailer with up to 1500 pounds. I will try to keep the tongue weight of the trailer just over 150 pounds.

I am trying to find a way to level the truck under this load.

Bill

wow thats not much of a load, do you have a class 3 hitch? your truck should be able to hold that load easily with out sagging. I know this sounds stupid but did you check the tire pressure?? that will affect towing.

I would think that you would be able to tow that weight without some aftermarket upgrades.

I did read somewhere in here that on certain modles of f-150s have a problem with cracking springs, usually one of the middle springs, i wonder if yours is one of the models with that problem, it was a recall, so ford will fix it for free. Hopefully someoneelse has some info on that.

you could go to a spring shop and add couple of leafs, but that would stiffin the ride when its unloaded, air bags would be the best of both worlds , click on the ads here on FTE , ken likes it when you do that , motorhaven might have something.it shouldnt take to much to lift that sagging rear of yours, alittle jogging ,diet coke and no twinkes and lots a time alone with the wife/girlfriend....hmmm... ah... guys igootta go now ...honey....oh ...honey .oh well i found my jogging shoes at least
