Was out and about this morning, had to drop a package off at the local UPS Store. Left the motor running, when I came back out smoke/steam was coming out of the A/C ducts. Heater or defrost was not on.
Can anyone shed some light on this occurance.
I thought that maybe the heater core could possibly be clogged, but the heater works just fine. I don't have defrost, but I do have good heat.
that still sounds like what mine was doing when my heater core went out. Heat would work... but it wouldn't clear the windows, in fact it usually made them worse. And it would smoke out of the vents.
You might take out your glove box and check your H-core. It aint hard. Might save you some trouble.
Definitely the heater core, although this could take some time depending on what you have. If you have a 78 or 79 then you're in trouble. The rest are a breeze.
I have a 79 and i just changed my 2 months ago, I had to take out all the vents but it wasent that bad and i got to clean them while thay were out, and there was alot of crap in there, so it worked out for the beter.
`85 is a piece of cake. Definitely sounds like the heater core. No water/anti-freeze mixture on the passenger side floorboard/carpet? As Billy Bob said, only about 30 minutes work. Check and make sure your duct work is clean while you are in there. You`d be surprised at what all can make its way from your dashboard to your heater - A/C doors.
