Stupid Question

Hey I was just wondering if anyone else has noticed this. My '83 F-150 only has a door switch for the dome light on the drivers side door. The wiring for the passenger side door is already in place from the factory, but there is a rubber plug where the switch should be. I have also noticed this on a few other trucks in junkyards, etc. Does anyone know what ford was thinking when they did this? It seems like they only did this on the lower trim levels. Any ideas?

Money, is the answer. It costs less to put in one switch than two. It's that simple. Sound like it's only a buck or two to put that second switch in but adding up all of the base level trucks Ford makes and sells in a year and you are talking some serious money. If you want the other door switch, you can go to the junk yard and get one from either door of any F series from 1980-88' plug it into the wiring, remove the plug and mount the switch.

Now you've got an XLT series truck!!!

Have fun RussA

Yeah I already did that today. I guess all I need now is the woodgrain dash!
