i have a 87 lincoln mark VII and i'm havin severe bucking problems throughout the rpm range. fuel mileage is low and it had the check engine light on but i disconnected the egr and it went out except for when you first start it and go to pull out, it will come on only 1 time. i already replaced the wires, cap, rotor. where should i look next
I recently had a similar problem with an 89 mark. It had a galloping idle, poor fuel mileage, major loss of power, and some bucking. Ended up being a rusted fuel pump line (right on the pump where the steel line attaches to the plastic line) resulting a drop in fuel pressure.
I would say its that ,I had that problem on an 89 bucking and stuff the check engine light would only come on some times went and changed almost every sensor in the motor reading the codes , and it was the CO sensor after that many miles you should change it anyway IF that doesnt work check your plenum gasget ITS cheep to do run the car let it warm up spray wd40 around the bottom of plenum see if it changes the idle of engine good luck!
ok i'll check that plenum gasket and change the o2 sensor and the fuel filter while im fixing the stupid air suspension and the exhaust. thanks for the advice
I recently had the same problem it turned out to be the TPS (throttle position sensor) It was reading the trottle as full open all the time. Therefore the mix was rich.
I had a bad experience with the car today. i left work and only got to the end of the parking lot and the car shut off. i restarted right away and heard the serp belt screamin away so i threw it in reverse and got as far as i could back into the lot till it died and was spewing white smoke out from under the hood. i got out and started moving parts to see what went wrong, alternator was ok, ps & water pump too. got to the smog pump and it was seized like no other. so after i get around to puttin some tranny fluid in the pump n try to loosen her up and get a new belt on it, i hope this is the cure for the trouble all long
I know it sucks that the pump packed it in,but maybe its a good thing, now (if its the problem)you wont be looking for a needle in a hay stack good luck!
