Well I can tell you what I have experienced with the lift that I put on....The lift is the pro comp 7" (6.5 in reality) with 315/75/16 Goodyear MT/R on eagle 589's. I installed the lift with the help of a few friends and a garage with air tools and a lift. The install went smooth and took about 7 hours. I wouldn't suggest trying the install without a lift or air tools. That being said the lift is great it rides a little stiffer than stock and handles better and corner roll is less. The tires are as small as I would go with this lift but the next size larger are super swampers and I didn't want them. I think that it looks good but it does show a little wheel well. The feeling that a lifted SD gives when you look over and are looking down at the roof of the car next to you is just well....I can't emagine the lucky suckers with 8" and higher :-staun
2001 F250 .............$27,000
7" lift and tires......$2600
The looks that you
get on the highway.....PRICELESS :
my fabtech works great and ride quality is fine. under the fabtech eight inch kit you can get 38" tires to fit.
fabtech also makes a 5.5" kit that you can run 35" tires under or you can go with a leveling kit and fit 35" tires (althogh depending on rim width, you may encounter some rubbing).
I have the National Spring 6" with 36x14.5" Swampers, had to space out the front bumper a little to make them fit. It rides a little stiff, but it has the dual Bilstiens in the front. The 6 is nice but I regret I didn't go with the 8".
You name it I have had it. From 4 to 7 to 13 to 22 inches of lift. Fisrt was a pro comp 4 with 35 inch tires. Not high enough and kit was poorly built. Wrong size block for rear and a spacer for the trac bar to fit with the drop down. Next used spring hangers to get 7 inches with 35 inch Super Swampers. Great size after fixing the problems with the pro comp lift. Next was 13 inches with 38 inch tires. Did a flip shackle in the rear so not to use any blocks. Next was 22 inches with 44 inch Super Swampers. Installed an Air Ride system to the rear. Every lift was a good lift. The first pro comp lift just needed to be perfected. Even with 22 inches and 44s I travel in the truck from Arizona to Calif., Nev., and Mexico. My wife even drives it to work at least twice a week. What ever size you go with just use a shop that Knows what they are doing. Good luck.
I know that a huge lift can make a superduty look GOOD!!! But what about off-roading or on road driving properties? This question came up because of something i saw in Glamis. I saw a F350 with a HUGE lift and 44's ...but it couldn't make it up Comp Hill, and the suspension looked extremely rough on the people inside, and worst..... a totally stock 4wd explorer sporttrac buzzed it's way right past the beast:-staun
What's a good all round lift for offroading AND the looks?

ummmm...... geez..... ummmm......
it's been six hours and i am down to the bone here..... sicduty, dude... that truck ROCKS!
and i thought that my rig would pull the girls????
to answer your question.... big lifts and huge tires will wheel just fine as long as you have the right gears and an engine that can make power to them. a good set of lockers will make you a champion.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 09-Jan-02 AT 11:01 AM (EST)]WOW that thing is HUGH!!!:-staun Very Niiiiiicccceeeeee.....
Gease, and my girl friend thinks that it is a pain getting in and out of my truck
it's morning now..... no need for an ambulance any longer.... all that is left is a stump..... which i am still trying to make use of..... ummm... does anyone have a bandaid?
Thanks guys!! It has taken a few years but, she is getting there. abendx- I had to change my F550 badging since everyone in Phoenix caught on and had them on stock F350 with no moods. I put them on as a joke because of the hieght of the truck. Now I went with F650 badges.
SuperF250- Most guys who can afford big lifts and 44s have never even heard of Glamis or any other offroad spot. They also didn't think about air lockers or gears. Another good idea with large tires is a gear splitter which actually gives you 5.70 gears out of the hole with 4.56 gears. BUT its not all about the truck!! The driver is the key when offroading. Also alittle thing called tire pressure. To be honest a 8-12 inch lift with 38 inch tires is a great hieght.
RockyMountain250- Electric steps shuts the women up about getting in and out.
Sorry guys I don't have anymore pictures. I borrowed those from Streetruck.com They took them at some of the shows I have been at.
Wha size tires would be the best on a 9 f-250 sd wiht e soon to be abtech 5.5 lift? Im really surious now. I want wide. possibly 33's? what pirce tag am i looking at here?
Thanks S
