When you first start the truck and put it into gear, it will pull just fine for about 1000 yards, but after that it stops pulling. If you turn off the truck for about 5-10 minutes and restart it, it will pull again for another 1000 yards. This works in any gear and in both 2wd and 4wd. It has tranny fluid, but it is reading past the full mark on the dipstick. The fluid was to the correct level before the problem started. Oh yeah it is a 79 with a C6
UMMM sounds like there may be fluid ports clogged and not able to keep up with the flow that is needed. When was the last time you had it flushed and refilled?
No clue when it has last been flushed. Some people have been telling me to replace the filter, torque converter, or the front pump, and I am trying to figure out which way to go first.
Go the cheapest and easiest 1st. Flush and fill, (Includes new filter). If not fixed, then start looking at replacing the pump. If nothing still...take it to a tranny shop.

I have a 82 Ford Bronco 302, C6 Tranny, how many quarts of fluid would it take to fill her back up after a flush. Thanks. Want to avoid two trips to auto parts store.

With just a filter change..about 4 1/2 to 5 quarts.
Full flush and fill,(including torque converter), 12 quarts, may need another 1 or 2 to top off.
Using a pump and a cleaning agent. I never did it myself..I was too lazy to deal with the mess and all the fluid. I just went to a local tranny shop and had them do it. cost about $50. But make sure its a good shop. I went to one and they tried to just change what was in the tranny and say they flushed it. But the guy working on the truck didnt know I was waiting for it. I was watching while looking at another car and having a smoke...hehe he didnt know he was working on my truck.
