How common is it for the Fuel Pressure Regulator to go on the late 80's - early 90's FI's ?????
I have had one go on my 88 460 (I think because the engine had been sitting for a while, it was stuck closed and making the engine run rough, and rich)
and I beleive that I have one gone on my 89 351w....
so I'm wondering how many other people have run into that problem????
if the fuel pressure reg is bad, it will be hard to start when the motor is warm, or when u take off the vacuum line off and its sucking gas into the vac. line, i had this prob once, but on a sable 3.8
mine went at 165,000..i knew it went cause it was pouring raw cause in the engine so much i had a puddle of gas at the rear of the the tailpipes...im not kidding my driveway is on a slight slant and not knowing what was wrong with the truck i kept on cranking and crankinb it...until i got a strong smell of gas and noticed it almost pouring out the pipes... true story guys....
My 93 had one go bad when I went to go look at it. It deterred all buyers. That was at 100,000. Told the guy the problem after he let me have it alot cheaper. Went bad again at 115,000 when it was zero out. Went bad again this winter at around 126,000 when it was in the single digits.???????
I've had two regulators go out in three years on my truck. The second time it happened while cruising 70 on the freeway. I pulled over and the truck was still running but would barely idle. A cop pulled up beside me and told me I had gas pouring out my exhaust pipes! That happened 25,000 miles ago and after fixing it the engine still runs perfect.
Yeah, I diagnosed it correctly, Fuel pressure regulator....... was running real rich and crappy, hit the inertia switch, to shut off the pump, trucks runs good untill the pressure bleeds away....
