Hey guys, most of you know I've got a Red FX4 on order with dark shadow grey 2tone. In all my trips to my dealers lot he's yet to have a 2tone FX4, until today. It was a blazin yeller FX4 with the grey at the bottom, which was very eye catching. However, upon closer inspection it appears as though the grey paint was just sprayed over the yellow and I could actually see grey over spray in the door cracks ( dealership was closed so I couldn't open the doors), also could see the same thing at the cab and bed junction, grey over spray on the bottom of the cab between this junction. It just made the paint job look really cheap IMO. Is this normal, or just a bad truck? It was supercrew, and I've heard that the KC plant was having some problems with their 2tone.
If its a factory job I think the bumpers will have a plactic cover to match the 2 tone. I had my 04 super cab painted 2 tone just so i could get the crome bumpers. You see its not and opt when you order 2 tone, it will have plactic bumpers.. The dealership painted my truck and the only way you can tell other then what I said above as there will be a paint line that was coverd with a tape pinstripe. Hope I helped
2004supa' it was a new truck with a drive out tag on the back setting on the lot. Also it was an FX4 blazin yellow, and doesn't yellow mean mandatory factory 2tone? I didn't think it was normal, but maybe I was just looking TOOO close?
Zaka' what's this about plastic bumbers?? They felt like metal and sounded like metal when i tapped on them
I had that problem on my truck. It had AZ beige oversprayed onto two spots on the MW Blue. Also, some of the AZ beige had what looked like fingerprints in one spot on the lower portion.
I bought my truck from a smaller dealer. I don't think they painted the two-tone themselves. I assume it came from the factory.
The dealer quickly had everything fixed, and my paint job is perfect.
Well I hope this was just a bad 1st example of lower 2tone paint on a FX4 for myself. Maybe when (and if) my truck ever gets here it won't have this problem. If so I trust that my dealership will take care of it.
ultramax21 You said the yellow FX4 came from the Kansas City plant? My yellow FX4 Supercrew came from the same Kansas City plant and my first impression was that the lower paint was added later, possibly at the dealership. Their was still tape between the cab and bed seperating the two colors. The paint looks good but I still had that first impression. STRANGE!
exactly SQCRUSE... I think I'll check out some of the 2tone lariats next time im by the dealer's lot and check the door cracks and bed/cab junction to see if i see the same thing. If its painted at the factory it's obviously painted after the main body color and only sprayed over. Wonder if this means a "rock chip" in that area will reveal yellow paint ( for my situation red)?
i ahve a 2002 f150 with the 2 tone paint and yes they do just spray it over the existing paint. i have also heard that ford does not do the painting that they send it out. i dont know how true this is like i said its just something i heard. the paint job in the door sills is not the best. if i had it to do over again i would not get the 2tome paint option. i would rahter take it someplace myself for a custom paint job.
I went to the dealership today and looked. There were several two tone vehicles. The job was without doubt fatory. It wrapped around the bed and cab. These were also Lariats.
I would bet that if two tone were not available on a FX4 through the factory, the sales person would not
offer to tell you they would do it themselves. If you look on the order there is an area for dealer options on it. I would assume they use that area for things like that, and bug guards....ect
where they spray it in the doors is where it looks the worst. they dont or didnt on mine tape off the door jam. looks like crap. i am still trying to decide weather or not to take it back and make them fix ot or not. but the again i al also considering changing the color to house of kolors kameleon, or hoever you spell it, lol
This must be the norm for ford factory 2tone paint. Today I checked out somebody's 2002 supercrew f150 at school that was 2tone. It had the same problem, overspray in the door cracks and cab/bed jnct. Sorry for creating such a stink about all this. If my FX4 has this problem I'm just going to have the dealership pull it in the body shop and spary some dark shadow grey in the door crack and I'll be happy. What looked so bad was when I looked at this Yellow FX4 is the area where it's grey, at the door cracks you see yellow instead of grey.
