shoe polish

I have an old pair of HH Brown leather hiking boot style shoes. I rarely wear them since they are my "nice" shoes. They are waterproof and have the word "Gorex" stamped on the side.

Can I use any type of shoe polish on them or do I need a special leather polish? I picked up a KIWI brand shoe polish for brown shoes, but don't know if I should use it or not.

I clean my brown boots with saddle soap, and wax.

At work they buy us boots, and I have had leather, leather/canvas in Gortex and I use plain old polish in a tin. I have never had a problem!

Kiwi will work fine. I wouldn't count on them being waterproof if they really are leather. A little "spit" on the rag helps to make it shine. I suspect distilled water would do the same.

Goretex & Soap

Goretex has a treatment that can be washed out and needs to be re-applied periodically. You just might want to take those boots to a good outfitter every once in a while and get them treated. Then you'll have nice warm dry feet for a long time to come.
