Has anyone ever tried the 351w block with 400 crank and chrysler rods combo, supposed to be like a 426 or something. just wondering about durability.etc
machine work for that is pricey. You can order a crank from summit that will run you the same price as the machine work to fit the 400s crank in the 351w. The summit crank uses the stock windsor rods and pistons for a 302. Crank is $549...much cheaper and easier.
You need to grind the lip on the "snout" side of the crankshaft and mill the counterweights and notch the block. I always thought it would be awsome to stick a 400 crank and a pair of 4v cleveland heads on a windsor block. Kinda like a 400MCW
There are three common factory heads around, the E7TE good ,the 72 model or D0OE same thing better, gt-40/gt-40p best.
Why not make the motor completely reworked, get a set of 4v cleveland heads have them reworked to work on the windsor block, get the intake that will allow it to work, and then you could say you have a completely stock modified motor.
Seriously you might consider some of the larger aftermarket heads for that thing, then you will be making all kinds of hp and tq. Well if your best friends brother-in-law will help you out, go for it.
Here is a link to different heads and how they flow, stock and aftermarket.
Sure, port'em, then when you do get some extra money and add aftermarket heads, it will be another step up in performance. Go for it, and let us know what you do. Good luck
