i've been reading some and have seen that some people suggest against the cleveland in a truck. mine is just a toy, no plans to tow or anything except to go as fast as possible. i'm looking to try and get at least 400hp out of a motor and it seems that the cleveland is more than capable. any help would be great. thx
What's wrong with your 360? Why not just change it over to a 390 and do some modifying? You'll probably have the same amount of money tied up in a built 390 as with a built 351c. And you won't have to change your bellhousing, mounts, etc
What is your budget? The 351C motor will be a little on the pricey side, say, compared to a nice 351W stroked to 400+... What motor would you be happy with? I am not too familiar with the AOD so I do not if they are only small block bell housings.
not too worried about the price. im still lookng but have been told the 351c is kinda bullet proof at 400hp. always open to suggestions. just want to keep kids (rice burners) and chebbies in the rear view.........
There are plenty of bullet proof engines that can be built at 400hp+. The 360 you have can be pumped up to a 390 using crank/rods/pistons from a 390. If you really want some fun, do the 428 crank swap and jump to a 410... I'ts all a matter of your preference. Take into consideration transmissions as well, some are more freindly with certain engines.
your 360 is the same block as a 390, and the 390 is a very popular truck motor up here....change your crank and head, and a few other things, and you have a 390....take that into consideration....
There is a tranny adaptor that will bolt an AOD to an FE (360/390). Consider the upgrade to the 390 from that 360 and you could be good to go (these average 375 HP and huge TQ when warmed a little). If you do decide to take the 351C route, a few thoughts. Those motors were limited to their production run and were later replaced with the 351/400M (or 335 series). A 351C will have a small block bolt pattern, where the M's have the big block (385 series) patterns. If you have one that someone is selling you, check the patterns or you could end up with the less desirable M engine...
