Thanks, I'd never heard about the 1/4 tank rule. That seems a bit excessive, but I could see it if you're 4-wheeling and the gas is sloshing around a lot. Thanks for the info!

2fastLX......

Where did you get that "No less than a 1/4" tank" information?!?!

It does NOT say anything about it in my owners manual....nor in any other literature I have on my truck.....so I just called my dealer's service manager, and asked him about it. He knew NOTHING about it....and offered the following comment: "It would seem to me that if you had to keep the tank at least 1/4 full to keep the fuel pump from buring up it's seals.....there would be some kind of a device in the tank to keep ANYBODY and EVERYBODY from going below 1/4 tank and "burning out the seals" in their fuel pumps. If this "1/4 tank" thing were true, it would result in tens of thousands of Ford WARRANTY fuel pump replacements, which is NOT happening"!!

In-tank fuel pumps are designed to be submersed in fuel. If you let your tank run empty the fuel pump isn't going to be submersed in fuel around tight corners and quick stops. Call Walbro, or any other fuel pump manufacturer. It stated right in my Walbro installation instructions when I installed the HP fuel pump in my Mustang not to let the tank get low on fuel because it could damage the pump. I have two friends that ran out of gas and had to replace their fuel pumps right afterwards. And as I said, this happened to my wife's Focus shortly after she let it get close to empty. And the mechanic that replaced the pump at the Ford dealership who I respect as being a very good mechanic told her not to let it run dry again. It's not going to happen to everyone who lets their tank get low, but it does happen.

For "Some-Cow" and "Grey 77" .

Press the Reset button and the display returns to normal each time.

I just got back from a road trip and here's how my "Low Fuel Level" message works:

50 miles to empty - Low Fuel Level message first appears
37 miles to empty - Second warning
25 miles to empty - Third warning
15 miles to empty - Fourth warning
13 miles to empty - BlueMonday fills tank with 25.63 Gallons ($1.699/gal for the cheap stuff in these parts)

I have the 35 gallon tank in my Lariat and the fuel light comes on with a loud BEEP when I'm low on gas. I'm not sure how accurate it is but it seems that when it's almost to zero that I still have a little room on the gauge so maybe it's meant to be a little conservative on the number so us *******es don't run out? I dunno...........
