I ordered a Lariat Scab 4x4 two weeks ago and already have the VIN. I'm having a hard time waiting! I ordered the 35.7 gallon gas tank with the 5.4L and 3.73 LS, and I was wondering if anyone can comment on the accuracy of the "miles until empty" function. I do a lot of LD traveling and stop as little as possible. I'd like to be sure the "miles left" estimate is fairly accurate. Thanks!
it is fairly accurate. It takes the current MPG that the truck is getting and then multiplies it by the number of gallons left in your tank and then gives you the number. It will change depending on if you add/lose weight or are driving hard and then cruising.
Don’t buy a 04 XLT Super Cab, it doesn’t come with a simple and cheap low fuel idiot light. I wonder what some of Ford's engineers are thinking. Most cars & truck come with a low fuel warning light.
My LOW fuel light came on last week on my new 2003 XLT. This is the first time I have ever seen that on any vehicle. It came on at 21.5 gallons US of fuel used. That left me with 3 gallons reserve. Nice to know these things. You can travel 60 miles in some parts of the US without seeing a station.
I don't know if the Lariat has a low fuel light either. My '91 Ranger doesn't have one, and I have yet to run out of fuel. I don't like running the tank low, especially in winter, for fear of condensation. I've also heard it's not good for the electric fuel pump if you run the tank dry.
Can't tell you your DTE with the 5.4, but on my 4.6 it's about 350 miles...
My low fuel indicator is in the trip odometer display, a chime sounds, and it says "low fuel". I've let it go 40 miles after that without running out of gas.
I've noticed a LOW FUEL warning message in the "message center" screen on both the FX4 & the Lariat - every time I go test drive either vehicle. I'm having a tough time deciding which one of the above models I would prefer.
I have the 30 gallon tank and my low fuel indicator comes on
when i have used 25 gallons leaving 5 gallons until empty.
I got about 75 miles to go when the indicator comes on. Is it me
or is it annoying to not see your miles or temp when low fuel indicator comes on?
Anyone know if there's a way to "amend" the factory setting - change when it comes on, for how long or to simply turn it OFF?
On the Lariat if you press the reset button the Low Fuel message will go away. It will come back on after a while (not sure whether it's based on time, distance or fuel consumption).
I have the Lariat SuperCrew with the 30 gallon tank.....and when my "low fuel" warning message comes on, it ALWAYS tells me that I have "50 miles until empty"....NO MATTER what MPG the vehicle computer is calculating.
I have driven way past the "50 miles until empty" distance....probably closer to 150 miles.....and then filled up the tank, and put 31.9 Gallons into the "30 gallon tank" that is on my truck.
HMMMMMMMM.....wonder where that EXTRA 1.9 gallons of gas went.....since the tank is supposed to be a 30 gallon tank?!?!
I guess when you get down to the facts.....Ford's 30 gallon tank on the F-150 SuperCrews, is really a 32 gallon tank.....
I know on my 04 that I overfilled it and ran out the back and down the inside behind the filler down the fill tube and then on the ground, unlike my sd which runs down the front. I got a 25 gallon tank and have ran it down to 1 gallon left. the light comes on with 4 gallons left.
If you let your fuel run low enough to bring on the warning light chances are you are slowly damaging your fuel pump. Especially being a Ford, but all in-tank electric fuel pumps need to be submersed in fuel to keep from burning out the seals. My wife let her Focus get below 1/8th tank and three days later the fuel pump went out. You are supposed to keep at least 1/4 tank at all times with electric in-tank fuel pumps. Just thought I'd let you guys in on that that didn't already know it.
