I am clueless IRT PTO. I bought (yesterday!) a 2000 F350 crew cab, 4x4, dually, diesel. As I am going through the books in the glove box, I find a peel off decal that says, "IMPORTANT, This vehicle is equipped with a power take off."
When I was a kid on the farm, a PTO on a tractor was a splied output that I could hook up things to to turn them mechanically (like a manure spreader, whatnot). SOoooo, can someone tell me a) how to verify there is one on my truck, b)what do I use it for?
I have never actually seen one on the Ford's. The one's that I have seen were run off a yoke on the Xfer case.
There are a lot of various applications that you can use that PTO for. There are generators for the work site, various types of pumps, etc. Running a hydraulic pump is a popular application such as on a tow truck, or a hydra. winch or you can mount quad .50 cals in the bed and use the PTO to run a hydraulic pump so that you'll be able to rotate and lift the guns to accurately shoot the ******* who just cut you off. Bu then again, electric controls are better for that.
I would crawl under the truck and see if you've got either a yoke with nothing on it or a hole that looks like a yoke would go in it on the Xfer case or the Xmission. But then again, I have never actually seen one on the SD.
i suppose this would also be applicable if one wished to substitute dual M-60s for the quad .50s, don't you think (you know, that .50 cal ammo is running $2 a round or so!!!)
You did not mention if your truck was a stick or an auto.Either way your truck did not come from the factory with a PTO on it ,It is just PTO capable. If it is a 4R100 auto these are the first auto trans available with PTO capability. On either trans there will be a square plate about 6"x4" ,this is the access hole for the accessories which can be run off of it. Hope this helps

If it's a 6speed its on the drivers side,
as stated before its a cover 6x4 that cover is removed, and you can
hook those cannons up to fire real nice ,but now we need some radar
for those in coming honda's
Goodluck with your truck!
