HD4R100 question

I picked up my HD4R100 from my local dealer today. I am taking it to be installed tomorrow and I looked at the part number 7U2Z-7V000-BRM TRM 1653. It looks like it has the PTO option, am I going to be able to have this transmission installed tomorrow even though I don't actually have a PTO, or am I going to be very disappointed?

Other than the lack of electronic controls through the PCM for the PTO, the transmission will perform the same in fit and function. You will actually have some upgrades to the Coast Clutch with this option and would be considered a plus.

Great to hear. I am sure I have paid more for it as well. Thank you Roland.

Here we go.... I'm just waiting for the "I should have done this long ago" post. A built-in hydraulic pump would blow the electric version away - this is gunna be good.

Good question and answer, guys! Thanks for sharing the info. As our trucks age, good to know we can use either option.

Good luck with your install this weekend!

What electric version? Or rather, the electric version of what? A pump? I've never seen a 4R100, PTO or not, that had an electric pump. Or are you talking about whatever is driven by the PTO? But even in that case, there is no "built in" hydraulic pump. The PTO is gear driven by the trans. The hydraulic pump is an extra cost aftermarket add on component.

Ah, thanks for explaining. Didn't realize he had a plow. But by the time he paid for the PTO (and there are only two models in existence that will work due to the non-standard bolt pattern on the 4R100 case), the APCM control box, and figured out if, whether, or how his existing PCM could or should be modified (with his tunes) to coordinate the effort... never mind the cost of the hydraulic lines and fittings... the status quo plow control is starting to look good enough to me!

I just hope he got the HD4R100 trans. Never heard of it with PTO. Hope they just didn't give him the PTO standard trans. Sorry Jason just concerned for you. Know the troubles you've had. God bless

There is most definitely a PTO version of the HD4R100, and the part number Jason provided matches the Ford part number to an HD4R100 with PTO, not just a regular rebuilt 4R100 with PTO, which does exist, but has a different part number.

If I were to buy an HD4R100, I'd order the same one Jason got, with a PTO.

And for the price, didn't he say it seemed to be cheaper then the regular HD4R100? I'm not sure I would but only because I don't need PTO, unless someone can show us why it's better. It will work I'm cure, I remember them asking me if I wanted it when I ordered my truck. Didn't see a reason for it and thought just one more thing I would have to worry about replacing. But maybe it would of been better, mine went out at 134K.

The PTO version has more clutches in the Coast Clutch drum and has a ball bearing support versus bushing. You'll get the PTO drive gear which is pressed onto the CC drum. There are differences in the case and valve bodies, but don't really offer any "beefiness" to the mix. They are necessary for the functionality of the PTO operation.

Had to stop by and say WOW!!! Running around all weekend so I don't have time to get too detailed. It has been soooo long since I have had a transmission that worked properly I had almost forgotten what my truck was supposed to run like. I haven't even switched to the F6 and the new tunes and it is a totally different truck. The old transmission was pretty much fighting itself, all the time. The one big difference with the PTO version of the transmission that we had to deal with was the shifter bracket. The one from the standard version of the 4R100 doesn't fit properly so they had to "manufacture" one out of some angle iron and some plate steel. I will address this probably this week.
