Has anyone got a good combination to use a stock 4R100 PTO? I am looking for the pto gear box, pump and cable to engage the pto. Are there any problems with using the 4R100 or is there another transmission out there that would be better to use? This is for an 01 7.3 F550 stake body.
I like using the trans PTO vs an electric pump due to the fact you can control the speed of the lift.
I am not sure what you are asking but my 2000 F450 7.3 4x4 has a 4r100 with a 20,000 PTO driven winch. I am having the transmission rebuilt now at only 114,000 miles
I have a stock 4r100 in my 2001 f550 stake body. I would like to make the stake body dump using the pto off the trans to run a hydraulic pump to cylinders. what gear box/pump combination do you have? It is usually a chelsea or a muncie. Are you using a ford apcm too?
We have used that trans with PTOs on pickups at work, I can't remember off hand the brand of the pump, but they where very reliable. The one pickup has 230,000 miles on it and it's ticking. It's in a snow bank right now otherwise I'd crawl under it and get you some info.
is there another transmission out there that would be better to use? This is for an 01 7.3 ..

I think that trying to retrofit a different transmission would cost you way more than it would be worth. The trans is controled by the PCM. While it is possible it is a lot of $$$ and a lot of work.
Search for a 240 Series Chelsea or FA Series Muncie PTO for the 4R100. I think the Chelsea has an integral pump version. You'd have to see what the specs are for your application, I put one on a 5R110W years ago in a F550 with Smeal well pulling rig to operate the hydraulics for the boom. IIRC, they use the same PTO.
I don't don't know all the details about my system, new to PTO setups but I can take pictures and answer questions to the best of my ability. My PTO drives a 20,000 bumper winch.
