Rear leaf spring experts???

Will the rear leaf springs of a 2004 F-250 fit a 1996 F150???

Silly question huh? Well not if you are me right now.

Just purchased a 6 inch lift kit for my 2004 F250. Have the truck all tore apart in my front driveway and just about done with the front end - what a pain in the butt. Anyway I was going over the parts and work to be done in the morning.

Here is why I decided to go over everything. The kit I received was a 6 inch Super Lift. It was supposed to have springs all the way around. It had the front springs and rear blocks...I told him it was wrong and that the kit was supposed to have rear springs too. He said just a minute and came out with a set of BDS springs for the rear. He said that another person ordered a set of BDS 6" springs and didn't come in to pick them up. He said these would work just fine and he like the BDS spirngs better.

Well - while going through everything I was browsing the BDS web site and noticed that the number on the rear springs for the 6 inch F250 was listed as 003609. Soooo I decided to check mine. Went out side and to my dismay saw the numbers were 003608. Came back inside and saw on the web page these springs were for a 1996 Ford F150....

The problem is that the dealer where I bought this kit will be closed tomorrow and I won't be able to do anything about it until late next week...

The question is will these springs work. Although it was dark it appears that they will in fact fit. They are 1/4inch thicker than the stock springs so the u-bolts will work. I called one BDS dealer in Ca. and he said that probably the only difference was the load rating and that they would probably still lift the rear up 6 inches because the weight of the two beds wouldn't be that much different.

What should I do? I have e-mailed BDS but they are closed - probably for the weekend. I REFUSE to remove the front springs now - wow what a job!

Any suggestions??? Or personal experiences?

Thanks

DD

Tough call. If you have the ability to wait, I'd recommend waiting and getting exactly what you need/want. If it's my money and my truck I'd probably wait and get the springs that were supposed to come with the kit...I'd be livid since I typically have no patience at all, plus it's their screw-up, but personally I would insist that it be the way I planned on.

Plus if the springs were identical/interchangable then why would they have different part numbers? Who knows? But I would want to know I have the springs for a SD.

I think 150 springs are usually not as wide as Superduty springs. That would lead to width issues with the u-bolts. I'm sure you could do it but you'de be subject to ending up on FrakenTaco!'s website.

I would get the right spring, unless you cant tell any difference between the factory spring and the BDS one besides the arch.

Maybe you would want a softer spring? and if it did sit nose up add a block to level it. I have a 8" all spring lift from superlift and its pretty rough riding.
im only 20 so i dont mind right now, but sometimes it gets pretty annoying

Well - here is the differences. Being in the bind I was I had to go ahead and try to install them.

So I removed the factory leafs and compared them to the BDS ones. They were the same width and length. They had one more leaf and the overload spring (bottom one) was not straight but curved upward. The springs also had more arch. The factroy hanger bolts wouldn't fit in so I had to get other bolts.

The install went fairly well. However the springs only brought my truck up 4 inches in the rear and I did leave the factory block in place.

So as it turns out the 6 inch Superlift on the front brought the truck up 8 inches and the rear came up 4 inches... Yuck!

So now I have to either change out the springs again in the rear or add 4 inch blocks... And of course everything happens on the week end when everything is closed and now I have to drive around for probably 2 weeks until I can get this corrected!

I don't want to sound like an @$$ but the right thing to do would have been to get all the right parts the first time. You went worng when you let the guy give you some springs he had layng around in the back. But hey we have all learned our lessons. When I bought my 315's the guy said "I think you'll need a lift kit" and I thought "yeah right, so you can sell more stuff!!!!" and guess what, I needed the lift kit......

DougD, I have a 94 150 with 6 inch blocks. I was wondering when you find the right springs if you wanted to sell the 6" 150 springs? Just thought i would ask.

Thanks,
Brian.
