we musent forget that when the bronco was built (mine in 95) emisions werent the feavered pitch they are today. I personally like the MSD on my truck. not saying it gave me oodels of power but i can deal with 300 dollars for cleaner air, and a slightly better running engine. just my .02

Nope, stock was defenitly not defective....at all!! Had it into the dealership where the boat was still under factory warranty. This was the remedy suggested by the dealer!! Seems they are aware that the aftermarket ignition systems mentioned provide more spark, therefore less loading up at idle at a higher altittude.
No other "tweaks" performed at the time the Jacobs was installed, I just installed the Jacobs, thats all.

I'm not alone on this one, it is a proven remedy for the problem I have experienced for others also, as the boat dealership knows! We arent talking a crappy little old boat with a ton of problems. This is a 2000, 70 MPH 50K boat... Am I going to try and tell you it gave me more power??Nope, but I can say without a doubt the absolute fact remains that it helped me out at idle, fact, fact, fact!

So, you can argue all you want, but the FACT remains...IT WORKED!!!NO DEBATE,PERIOD!!!!

I am glad the boat ran better but there had to be an underlying problem with the way the stock system was installed or the engine was tuned. The dealers often don't have a clue as to how to make the marine electrical systems work.

It could have been as simple as a defective ground connection that was replaced/bypassed or repaired with the Jacobs installation. Ground & electrical connections are notorious for trouble in marine systems. Even on new boats I have seen some really shoddy workmanship on 50K+ boats, -all glitz and sparkle on the outside but corroded to the core -hehe! Sometimes I just have to laugh and shake my head. Engineering work on military aerospace systems taught me some things about harsh environments. But then if they built them right the price would triple so what do you do...

BTW- If the idle ignition was improved your full throttle performance probably improved also.

Find a US Navy trained electronics tech or electrician to check over your boat when you have trouble next time.

It was a new boat dude, no "corrosion to the core". this is not a gltiz and sparkle boat either, everything was checked and was performing properly on the boat! No ground connections replaced or bypassed, no engine retuning, no old lady that doesnt know anything, no tricks or dog and pony shows. etc.

I guess you just cant accept that no other changes were made at all, period. Oh well, your loss for your narrowmindedness.

Incendentially, there are many qualified people out here that are more than competent to completly evaluate and diagnose their electrical systems without receiving training in the navy.

the Jacobs worked, proven. End of story.

Dude, I am trying to help people, not being narrowminded. Please refrain from calling people names. I try to save people money so they can buy more of the things that matter.

The electrical connections I have seen on even NEW boats at the boat shows were not done properly. Some were showing signs of corrosion from just atmospheric moisture. Like I said, in order to get them done properly it would cost too much. The Navy does not have a corner on the techniques to use, but they do know them where others may not.

You are happy with your ignition and I am glad. I hope the boat manufacturer paid for the Jacobs system tho.

So to copy your language style...

The aftermarket ignition systems are snake oil, proven. End of story.

Torque1st, you a Navy guy? I am US Navy Senior Chief Electronics Technician, 23 years in Submarines and still counting. I'll retire when it's not fun anymore, and hunting down bad guys is FUN!

94F150, Torque1st is absolutely right. Although I do not agree with him, I do not consider him narrowminded and getting personal in these forums is not what we are all about. He is giving opinions based on his personal experience, and that IS what we are all about.

I have spent over half my life making sure that ALL of us can express our opinion in this or any other forum. Stay cool, and God Bless America!

Not Navy but I have friends that are. I worked many years in gov't labs manufacturing things for you guys to "play" with. Lots of electrical connections that had to perform 100% -NO failures when they were used! We had to make stuff that would withstand a mil spec+ environment and these pleasure boats wouldn't cut it. But then you know what it takes to keep an electrical connection functioning under severe "environmental" stress. I wanted in the Navy sub program while I was in college but I was 2 weeks too old (I changed majors) to get the sub program I wanted, propulsion engineering. They wanted me bad but not bad enuf to make the 2 weeks go away.

It's OK that you don't agree with me, I have every confidence that you will keep thinking and digging, -and eventually come around now that someone has planted a question in your mind.

That is all I can ask and that is what I am here for.

Thanks for all you do Senior Chief! Keep having FUN!

THIMK!

Torque1st...I am also trying to give everyone information that they may be able to use. I have presented the facts, assured everyone that the only change I made was to add the after market ignition box. But yet you still want to contridict the fact that it made a difference. Sorry, it appears yours is just an opinion and what I have presented is a proven fact.

The boat ran fine down in the flat lands, my post addresses the fact that it was only at altitute (Lake Tahoe, around 6000'). The problem would occur at the higer altitude lakes when downrigger fishing at idle speed for prolonged periods of time. Again, no condition was present at lower altitdues. A logical, easy and actually quite inexpensive "fix" was to install the mutiple spark ignition box. The other alternative was to retune the boat everytime you go up to the high altitude. The "box" solves the problem of using the watercraft at both sea level and a mile high with no retuning nesasary at any altitude. So, you see this device not only works for me, It actually has saved me alot of money and time by not having to mess with anything when I go up there or back down here! The aftermarket ignition is used by other boaters out here that use thier watercrafts in a similar manner as I both up high and at sea level with much success. It is a very good alternative for us whose time is far more valuable than the small cost of the box.

I am not saying it can't but I am saying that something else was probably wrong with the initial tune or ignition system was defective.

There is nothing to be "proven" in your testimonial.

Nixa MO! Fantastic HS band program you have! Congratulations!

Some people just insist upon calling others names... We had a problem with that in the Pig Pen forum...

Figured I'd post an update. Put in the MSD box today. I didn't have to make any modifications. I used the MSD plug in harness, and I made brackets to mount the box to some existing holes on top of the driver's side fender, behind the washer bottle. (what are they for, anyway? Duraspark?) Anyway, the truck started right up and idled very smooth.

At first I thought it cranked better, as sometimes it must spin over 2-3 times before it starts, and although it fired right off to start, I drove around to a few places and found that it didn't completly fix it. The idle did still seem smooth, but the idle is usually smooth in the truck anyway.

I'll leave it in there for now, after driving it some more I'll make a decision. I may just pull it out and put it on ebay eventually, I'm sure it's worth more than what I've put in it.

I should add that there were no negative affects, either. The tach and all worked fine, and it did go in with NO mods to the truck at all, not even drilling holes to mount the box.
