I have a 2004 F-250 4x4 lariat with the 6.8L V-10. I was wondering if any one has managed to coax reasonable gas mileage from their V-10. I'm currently getting about 11.5 mpg. I would like to know if intakes, headers and exhausts have improved anyone's mileage.
Post this over in the V-10 forum and you'll get more responses.
I'm running 4.30 rear end, auto tranny, and I've gotten 9 to 10 mpg since day one. If you're looking for fuel efficiency, you've got the wrong vehicle. . .but I can totally sympathize with you, today's fill up cost me $52, and i'll have to do this again in less than 5 days.
I got just about every performance thing short a SC. You will gain HP/TQ but my mileage has stayed with the adverage 10-11.5 city.
I have LOADS of power, MPG is a means to the end.
4 cyl. rangers are for mpg-- v-10 super dupers are for haulin! but I would also like to get better mpg if I could but I did buy a v-10 knowingly and willingly although the v-8 supers seem to get worse mpg's. I would suggest a chip exhaust and filter.
Thanks for all the input, I did realize what that gas mileage was pretty bad for the V-10, It has the 4.73 gears. I was just interested to see if it could be inproved, but 11+ on the highway at about 70-75 doesn't sound bad. On my last truck I had put headers and intake, this increased it from 13-15 to 15-17. I guess that this is the best I can expect from a F-250 CC V-10. Thank god it is not my daily driver.
