Anyone know if I can find a complete add on power steering for my 1955 F100 for a realistic price?
Alex
Alex, I don't know about "realistic" prices, but the Toyota conversion seems to be the route most are going for a stock axle 55. I believe you can get the kit from No-Limit for about $289 which includes the mounting brackets, U-joint, pitman arm, etc., but you have to find your own salvage yard steering box. For an additional $290 you can get the steering box too (rebuilt) which may not be too bad considering it's rebuilt. How badly you want power steering is going to determine how realistic the price is. I'm sure this kit is available from other sources too. Perhaps you can shop around and find a better price...
Alex,
I agree with Vern the toyota steering box is an easy way to get power steering. However, there is a lot more to it than the steering box. You If you don't have a power steering pump hooked up on your engine of course you are going to need brackets for that. Unless you are running the original engine you should be able to go to a salvage yard to get the bracket. Personnaly I would buy a new pump. Get the hoses for the toyota and steering box from a salvage yard. The last one I brought about 18 months ago was for $130or you can order the entire box, bracket, pitman arm, steering column kit for around $600. There really isn't a real cheap way to go.

I was seriously thinking about the Toyota conversion for my '51 F1 (until I changed my mind and decided to go IFS). The pictures of this swap I found looked real sweet, the toyota box has a factory look to it. If I were to keep my straight axle, the toyota power steering swap seems well worth the money.
