FWIW: Make sure when people call you with this type of news, they are actually from the insurance company and not trying to scam you out of personal information. It is possible someone went dumpster diving at a car dealer and got all your information. Including the insurance papers you needed to drive the vehicle off the lot, from the waste stream at the dealer.
Dealers are not know for shredding their waste paper stream and the dumpsters are usually left outside their property in an unguarded location.
That being said, get the exact reason in writing. Sounds like a typo error of some sort and you want it cleared up before you dump this company.
Well the women who called was my agent I know her personally and I also received a letter in the mail today.
After making alot of phone calls and trying to figure this whole mess out and 4 hrs worth of phone time we came to the conclusion was that whoever typed in the info for the new truck had the wifes drivers license number off by 1 number.
How we discovered this was that they said she had a DUI in 1981 that was covered up and its AllStates policy that no DUI's are allowed coverage. Well I said look my wife was born in 1976 so that would make her 5 years old. Thats when they started the numbers deal and everything was good except for on one page that had the wrong drivers number.
Well it was a big headache and I am glad its all taken care of. Now I just hope they notifiy the bank that its all good and everything is cleared up.
Glad they figured it out, too bad you had to go through all the BS though.
State Farm would not let my husband add our Bronco or renew his policy, because he has one speeding ticket on his record. (65 in a 55) And he's been with them 12 years. They are really cracking down. Good thing it was a typo in your case, but I would be really irked to go through all that because someone hit the wrong key. Think you should get a discount now!
They dropped you because they thought your wife had a DUI 23 YEARS AGO!!!! Man talk about holding a grudge. I could easily see that happening if it had been 3 years ago - that is one picky insurance company.
Yeah, guess since there was a wrong digit in license number that means a different person listed as your 'wife', thus the alleged DUI. Now, wouldn't mean a different name as well? And don't they know the name of your wife? See, this should have been resolved rather quickly, I'd pursue an apology too. Glad to hear its all good. -wb
Ya I would threaten to drop them knowing that they couldnt handle that, write em em a real nice long letter explaining how you have a better insurnace company waiting for you at a lower rate and that you just recomended a few friends with corvettes, mustang etc.(something exspensive to insure) away from your insurance, play there game, that ought to get someones attention. If it dont at that point, they arent worth it anyways.
Think about it, old truck clean record, new truck, all of a sudden the wife is cought drinking 23 years ago? sounds like someone has trouble getting 4 from 2+2. If its a true mistake on there part they should send you a letter of apologie, maybe a free gift or offer a discount. If not, then its the way they do tihngs and again, they aint worth it.

yeah... my insurance cost can go up, or down 10,20,25 bucks each month for apparrently no reason. just went up 9 bucks this month, and i havent been pulled over since 7/02, havent had any claims filed either
just a hassle.... and they make HUGE money pretty much doing nothing but paperwork
And to think I get pulled over once every onth on average, and my insurance still goes down, on a new ;soirty' truck how they list it, a race car and a old 4x4.....and yet it goes down every six months regardless of the number of tickets I have. :P
