Hi, this is my first post. I order a 2004 Lariat with caption chairs. Living in Minnesota I included the heated seat option. My question is: the seats only stay on for 10 minutes before turning off. Is there a way to change this?
I know that pressing the button would be an option. My question is related to starting the truck on cold mornings and letting it warm up and be assured that the seat was warm when you entered. We test drove some trucks on a morning at the dealer in Apple Valley where the outside temp was -10 below. Needless to say in 10 minutes the seat has not completely warmed up. Just wondering if anyone had an idea to extended the run time.
I am thinking of getting a lariat and was thinking of this very problem. I know what I will be doing....the heated seat buttons need to be wired to the ignition with a toggle switch. The reason? If you have a toggle switch you can turn the switch "on" when you exit the vehicle for the night. This way when you get up to go to work you don't have to go outside to hit the buttons. Having to go outside would negate the money spent on the remote start
Now how one would go about this I'm not sure, but I like the idea!!
Rferoni, The heated seats automatically shut off after 10 minutes. Your toggle will work but it will shut off after 10 minutes unless you bypass the factory timer.
We've tried to "pre-warm" seats on the lot before someone takes a test-drive. Start the truck, turn on the seat heater, let it run for 10 minutes. You know what? It doesn't work. I think what happens is the heat just escapes into the air; it seems you actually need a body sitting on the seat to retain the heat.
My wife has a 2003 Explorer and her heated seats turn of after about 10 min. as well but come back on a short while later when they get cold again. When she turns off the SUV and starts it agian they go back on automatically. Not sure if the Lariat is any different or not. I hope not, I have one coming in April

I wonder if there is a reason for the 10min shut off. I would consider not changing anything. Maybe these things overheat or burn out with periods of extended use.
