ok, i have learned a lot about the 400 in the past couple of months because that was the motor i was putting in my truck. but just recently a buddy of mine asked me if i wanted a 460 of his, since the bolt patterns are the same. the motor came out of a 73 1 ton 2wd. it already has a performer intake on it. what else could be done to get some power, like 400 horses (hopefully more) and over 500 lb/ft of torque. i am already planning on putting a cam in as well as doing some slight head work. the truck is a 4x4 with 44'' boggers. its built for mud, so i need some good power to spin the tires. any help would be great.
Basics are bump CR to around 9.0-9.5:1, good intake (which you have a decent one but some out there are better) cam around 220 degrees intake at 0.050 with around .520 lift, exhaust should be about 10 degrees longer than the intake, exhaust port work if in the budget, headers, carb at least 750 cfm. Should be good to around 425 hp and 550 ft.lbs. Feel free to email me bigsnag@yahoo.com for more details or proven combos.
