I hear / feel a small "thump" when I bring my 98 Exp to a complete stop. It does not happen all the time, but I have been noticing it more lately. Any ideas what this is ?

 

What area of the truck does it sound like it's coming from?

 

The sound is comming from the rear.

 

I believe you had the same problem as me. I read on another post that the sound was from the chain in the transfer case. he took his expy to Ford and they searched and searched until they finally came up with this reason. He said that this was 60k miles ago (I think). I have put almost 10k on mine with this same sound and have not had any problems with the truck. By the way, the sound on mine happened after I braked and let up on the brake pedal. Hope this helps.
