You all probably are aware of this, but I wasn't so I thought I would post it here in case this can help anyone else. I live in central Virginia (Palmyra), and had to go to Baltimore this weekend to get a new truck (new for me at least, a '93 F150). The seller (my sister) wouldn't let me use her tags to drive back down on, because she was transferring them to another car. I couldn't get tags here beforehand 'cause I didn't have title in hand (she didn't want to send it to me). But I was surfing the VA DMV website and found that I can now get a trip permit online for only $5. All you need is the VIN, description, and to and from cities. You can pay online with a check or credit card, and the permit pops on the screen and you print it on your own printer. You can then put it in your back window and it allows you three days from the day of the sale to get tags and registration. All you need is the title and bill of sale in the truck with you at all times. I came in handy 'cause I got stopped by a state trooper on 15 in the town of Orange-- she got out of her car, walked up to the truck and looked in the back window, then came to me and sheepishly said she just now saw the trip permit-- but just said sorry and have a nice day. Sure beats risking getting a ticket! (Sad to say I have driven cars I have purchased before without tags, but was lucky enough not to get pulled over). Anyway, the website is:
