Change all the above. Find a 4.9L donor truck. Basically you are changing the engine, mounts, radiator, engine harness.

The hard part for my friend who did the swap to a 302(?) was changing out the I6 towers so he could get the v8 mounts in.

car-part.com might help, but a lot of salvage yards ought to have donors sitting.

I like the I6 too, but the 351 would be easier in your case.

I can get a 1995 inline six,,, complete with alternater, pumps and brackets for $600.00....this is from a crashed 1995 truck, with only 60,000 miles on it......is it worth the trouble ?? need something soon

$600 ain't bad... depends on what you would prefer as an end result. That I-6 has better low-end torque, but the 302 holds better horsepower at high rpms.

If you like the idea of the strong bottom end, then it might be worth your trouble, esp. for the price.

But if you don't want to lose the high end of the V-8 then I would shop around for another 302 (easier swap) or upgrade to the 351. The 351 would outperform both engines in all categories

I'd leave the 302 Radiator, I think they are actually the same.

Yes you need the computer and motor mounts/towers. The wiring into the cab and too the buzz boxes is the same.

$600 for a complete running 300 I6 isn't bad. There are several header manufacturers for this motor, which really wakes it up.

With a good friend, you can have this swap done in about 10 hours.

good luck, and welcome to FTE.

Yep, thats gonna be the same. Buzz boxes are the random control modules. Things like the throttle cable, brake booster, that kind of stuff, they are interchangeable.

question? Why the hell would you want to swap from a V8 302 to a I6 300?

I got the 300 4.9L in my truck and I'm tired of it. I'm gonna swap the engine for a V8 302 5.0L.

More power in a 302 and sound's alot better too.

Oh, by the way. My truck is a 1994. if your truck in the 92-96 range. I could probably buy your wire harness, computer, and flywheel if you want to sell it.

I've already got a 302 but need the flywheel, computer and wire harness

let me know
