Thanks for the information "G". I refused to take my truck last night after a short test drive proved that the vibration was no better. I feel for the tech that is unable to book any hours as he struggles through a problem Ford says dosent exist. On the other hand, I didnt spend 35k for a truck that vibrates. I suggested that they look at the tolerances in the rear end and they said they would, but I got the feeling they were not taking me seriously. I tried to reach my sales rep. (very nice guy...) to ask him what they could/would do for me if the problem persists.
Took my truck in for a shutter while turning corners, a slight rear end whine at 50-55 & a slight pull to the right. They re-built the clutch packs, replaced the ring & pinion & did a front end alignment, Now the truck wonders (which I'm sure can be fixed) BUT, the rear end whine is gone & now I have a vibration through out the whole truck, including the steering wheel. This a strange vibration that you can almost hear as well as feel. The moral of the story, IF IT'S ONLY SLIGHTLY BROKE, DON'T FIX IT! I can live with a slight noise at a speed I rarley drive, but this vibration will not be acceptable.
Service Manager called. Truck operating as designed. He said that of 4 other trucks on the lot, 3 are just like it.... ....Hmmmm. They will not do anything else to the truck until Ford says so. I am pleading with them to at least look at the rearend. Frustration has set in. I dont know what to do next. The SM says to just drive it until it gets worse...

I heard that line a couple of times from ford...thats why ill be selling it in sept and never getting ford again...why don't you ask your salesman to get the dealership to buy it back, its unacceptable after all the money you spent on it. If they dont want to there is a number for the Dispute Board in back of your owners manual, give them a call, don't stop until it gets fixed or replaced. As they said 3 out of 4 trucks did it. If it was "normal" all trucks will do it no matter what
I hate like hell to even think this way, but something foreign may end up in my driveway soon. The only vehicle I have ever owned & not had one problem with is my wife's Mazda Miata, & thats 8 years old!
Check out the threads for Expedition vibrations and brake dust. Fords really giving us the shaft (literally). I've mostly had fords since my 64 T-Bird Conv. and even gave Ford another chance after my 99 explorer fiasco with the firestone tires. Toyota is starting to look good
i had problem with my 2004 fsx the first day i got it. noticed kinda thump when taking off from dead stop. which turn out to be the drive shaft. ford replaced and took care of problem.but now seems like the very first time i drive it every day. there is slight vibration only on take off, after that it seems ok. i can live with that if it dont get any worse. have 5000 miles on truck
I still can't believe this vibration problem is going on. I have been so disappointed with this truck because of the extreme vibration I have. My steering wheel nibbles (moves back and forth about 3/8 inch) when I am between 50 and 60 mph and I do seem to feel whole truck vibrating but it hard to tell what is vibrating when the steering wheel feels like this. I had 20" rims and Falken 295/50/20's on since I bought it and so I keep getting told by the dealership, "it's your tires". So I had the dealership balance them, no improvement, match air pressures, no improvement, then I had them load force them and two were out of spec., so I replaced 2 tires, load forced again, now all four have great load force numbers (8 and 9) but still NO improvement.
Like thenetguy said, I definately notice it is way worse when I pull out in the morning. The vibration seems to reduce some after been rolling for a while. I keep thinking that since I feel it so much in the steering wheel, that it is not a diff or drivetrain issue. Could my problem be in the diff or drivetrain ?
I had seen a TSB that reported a bad steering nibble at 60mph due to a bad steering gear that has to be replaced with a newer one, but my gear was checked and not in that older group.
Has everyone felt the problem vibrate the steering wheel like i described and was in worse in the morning first drive?
I cannot believe that it is the wheels and tires after all the balancing and road force work. Anyone know if this could be my problem or do you believe it is the same vibration issue that many seem to have?
I hate to say it but you gave them a good "out" by having the bigger wheels & tires. Do you have the old ones you can put back on & use for testing purposes?
I never really noticed a vibration in mine, until my wife got stuck in our driveway. I tryed pulling her out with my truck and got them both stuck (she has a reg cab Ranger) We had a bad ice storm the night before so the drive was solid ice, but that day I noticed it and thought I was paranoid, but it's getting worse, I also think I have the "shudder". hope we get a fix soon....
I have the same problem with my supercab 4x4, it has been in
4 times within 3400 miles. I have 5500 miles on it now. I have
an appointment with my service department on Wednesday to
meet with a ford rep. They have forced balanced my tires 4
times and replaced 1 of the tires and the vibration and shimmy
in steering wheel is still there. I will let you all know the outcome
after the appointment on wednesday. I am to the point that I want
Ford to by my truck back.
I picked up my FX4 last weekend. Unfortunately, It was during rush hour and I never got over 40 mph during my test drive. The next day I noticed a vibration between 40 - 60 mph. It's worst when doing a mild acceleration and best when decelerating. It seems to go away when I slip it in neutral. I took it back to the dealer today. The service manager drove it for about 15 minutes, confirmed the problem, and said he thought it was a bad driveshaft. He did not want me to drive it anymore for fear of damaging something else. I refused a loaner, since I'm butt deep in vehicles at the moment. I will let you know how this all plays out.
I noticed mine vibrates slightly between 52 to 58 mph, but when I turn overdrive off, it stops. In any case, the vibration is relatively slight, so while I still want it fixed, I'm going to wait for it to get worse, or wait until a fix is more readily available.
