How about a draft?

>I think all you people who support it are idiots. I have
>better things to do with my time. I'm not THAT patriotic.
>I'm not about to die for some idiot president who wants to
>better himself. As far as I'm conserned I'd rather jump off
>a bridge

I label you a troll.

Either you're fishing for the answer you're about to get, or you're as unappreciative of your freedom and the people who died giving it to you as anyone could be. I don't know if you're American or not since you don't list your city/state in your profile. I'll assume you are, unfortunately.

You obviously take for granted where you live and the opportunities afforded you because men died in droves to give it to you. If you can't appreciate that, and think you somehow 'deserve it' or have it coming to you by virtue of living in this particular geographic area of our planet, you are wrong. Freedom and Democracy were earned by our forefathers, maybe none of yours since you apparently come from a family of 'takers'.

That being said, if the draft came back I would fight for my country as was done for me to ensure my family and friends were able to continue living the life we do. I'd hate to see my sons have to go to war but if there was a draft I'd have to accept it because many many parents lost children to past wars to assure the freedoms you take for granted and my family and I are not special.

You don't have to like it, but your attitude is un-American and you make me sick. Hooray for you, evidently. Too bad we can't ship you off to a country where you'd quickly learn how very lucky you are.

Respectfully - you're wrong. Good men (including the ones planning to go to college), will do their duty. This is not an opinion, history has shown this.

How about a draft?

If the need comes, a draft will be activated. The all out wars used volunteers and draftees. And don't forget the civilians. Soldiers don't go anywhere without a dedicated citizenry. They (men and women) make the bullets, boots and airplanes etc. And, they don't get any "rank" or retirement benefits for the rest of their life. AND, if another big war comes, the Citizenry will be as vulnerable or more so than the soldiers. At least the soldier has a "gun" and some food. So don't worry folks, if Uncle Sam needs you He will find a job for you. Pax tecum.

why do you think an army of conscripts like the one saddamn controls will throw down their weapons when we come rolling through? because they don't want to be there. our volunteer army does want to be there. they are fighting for something they believe in, saddamn's army is not. just like in vietnam- the nva were fighting for something they beleived in, and with all due respect to veterans on here, alot of the us soldiers who were drafted and participated did not believe in what they were doing and in the end it became fairly obvious. just like with anything- in school you see the kids who want to be there excel, and the kids who don't want to be there do the bare minimum to get by. i know you can't compare the two but im trying to make a point. and its different when im comparing an army of iraq with the conscripts who fought for america in world war II, because they believed without a doubt in what they were doing. they might as well have been volunteers. im not trying to disrespect anyone at all, just trying to make a point.

and to add.... why should anyone be forced to join the military and fight? i already volunteer as much time as i can to help people out, especially as a volunteer firefighter. ill agree i owe a great deal to my country but there's more than one way to give back to it dont you all think?

I don't believe that to be disrespectful at all. It is the bottom line truth. It wasn't the sole reason we lost the war but it played a part. The fact that many of the American population were displaying hate for the armed forces didn't help the guys who didn't want to be there either.
