Which engine? Is the passage on the head or intake smaller?

sorry for the delay,it's a 351w with edelbrock streetmaster intake, and it's the intake that looks abit restrictive, they are L shaped but have enough material to make them square it just protrudes into the coolant passage .

As long as you don't thin the port out too much you can make it bigger. It will not hurt anything. You may not be able to match it to the head. I don't know.

I whent back and measured the coolant passages on the head and intake and their the same size, are their anymore passages I can inlarge to help run the engine a bit cooler, will I run into an overcooling problem, and is their a real concern about overcooling.

As long as your thermostat is working it would be pretty hard to over cool it. Maybe one of the small block gurus can jump in on this here. I have only rebuilt a couple. A quality waterpump will eliminate some small cooling issues if you have them. Then it moves on to a bigger rad, fan etc.. I have never heard of changing passage sizes but there maybe some benefits known out there.

As long as you run a thermostat in cooler weather...you can never really overcool a small block.....most radiators and fan systems are evenly matched with the heat output of the engine....

Larger fans, larger radiators, thermal dispersant coatings, too cool of thermostat in cool weather can cause overcooling...

If you drive in hot weather....then the more cooling, the better....

The only time you should clean up the coolant passages is when too much flashing is present.....or when calcification is present....use a mild burr to clean it up.....then use a semi abrasive mini pad to micropolish the surface to keep build up at bay....

Other than that.....the L shape coolant port should tranfer coolant pretty well.....we are afterall not talking about pressures exceeding 40psi....

The ports i'd be eyeballing are the intake ports......but that's just me....

Just keep in mind that the intake ports must taper as you head towards the riser (just before the inner radius)

make it a smooth transition and you should be fine....
