The 332 was available from 1958 - 1960 in Ford cars. It made less than 200 HP.

I don't know if Ford put any of them in trucks. There was also a 332 Y-block engine that was used in large trucks in the late 50s.

Yes, you can put anything FE on them. The only difference between a 332 and a 352 are the crank and pistons. You can also use 390 or 428 crank and pistons in them.

Back home on the farm we have a big cab over C750 with a 332 in it. It has all kinds of power but grandpa souped it all up. Many FE guys often have dreams of putting a 332 crank in a 427 and making an 8,000rpm screamer. I haven't seen it donw yet though. They are rare and hard to find but they are out there. They never came in any type of truck from the factory that I knoow of. Grandpa ripped it out of a lincoln. We just did a valve job on it but it really never needs anything else. It runs great year after year.

Maybe he just threw lincoln valve covers on it. I thought they were in lincolns?

"Grandpa ripped it out of a lincoln."

Then it was a Y-block, not an FE.

there is a little bit of confusion here.what he took out of the truck was a 332.he then put in a lincoln motor, which would have been a 317,341 or 368.very same engine.these engines were in lincolns from 52 57.they just made them different sises,in cubic inches.the truck engines had forged cranks and other h.d.goddies.people often look for these steel 332 cranks to build a 368 stroker.both engines have the same stock stroke.when they go on and ask for a 332 truck crank everybody comes on and tells them they never built one.thinking it,s fe.

I know its an FE. Could be wrong about the 332 part but I doubt it.

There's a thread about this very subject going on right now in the y-block forum (Wanted: 332hd Y-block Steel Truck Crank.)

I never knew there were so many of them. Not only was there a 332 y-block, but a 302 y-block. These were all truck motors. As "312" mentions above, the 1950s Lincoln car engines were 317, 341, and 368. These were not the small y-blocks like the 292 and 312, but the big MEL block that eventually went to 430 and 462 cubes.

Here's a site that has some great info about Ford engine families (auto, not truck.) Unfortunately, it doesn't cover the MEL block.

I've been looking around and you might be on to something. It has been a long time since I have seen the engine. I will look around some more. There is a lincoln engine code for FE engines out there but I have yet to see a lincoln running on FE power.

Well, I called dad and he said it has two bolts holding the valve cover down and its dizzy is in the back. That could only mean that it is a Lincoln Y-block. That kind of sucks too. I was thinking of using the crank one day!

The LINCOLN Y-BLOCK ENGINE SERIES has no relation to the MEL ENGINE SERIES -1958-1968 (383/410/430/462). This series was introduced in 1958 as a new engine family/design (plank head).

As previously mentioned, the LINCOLN Y-BLOCK saw two duties, car and heavy truck. The 317/341/368 were passenger car engines and powered both LINC and MERC. Truck derivatives of this engine family were the 279/302/332. There is very little in common/interchangeable with the FORD Y-BLOCK (239/256/272/292/312).

CORRECTIONS -

- LINCOLN Y-BLOCK ENGINE SERIES -

LINC - 1952-1957 317/341/368 CI
MERC - 368 (1957 Only)
HT - 279/317 1952/1955 - 302/332 1956-1963

(I just wanted to correct my mistakes due to users browsing down the road.)

The 332 was produced in 1958 as one of the 1st generation FE's along with the 352. The 332 came in a 2barrel version and a 4 barrel version. I have the 332 4 barrel and it produced 265 HP from the factory. Another rare thing about this early block was that it came with machined heads and solid lifters. I have more information for anyone who has questions about the 332 FE

Hello Jetmen i have a couple questions on the 332 .Ive heard that it came in a 2bbl version but cant find any specs on that perticular motor like HP and torque and what the engine code in the VIN would be for that motor also i was under the impression that only very early in the 1958 model year did for use solid lifters in the 332 is that true? Is there any power output specs difference between the hyd. and solid lifter motor?
Thank you
