My project consists of 2 trucks purchased on Ebay, and a custom 428 stroker motor. So, I've got a good bit invested. I've also got a lot of parts laying around. More than enough to build another truck. It would be easier to count the parts that came with my truck than to count the ones I have replaced. I've been through almost every system on the truck and repaired or replced what was needed.
I know I'm over $20k in this project. Some detailng and paint and it might look like a $10k truck :-)
You never get your money back. But, I've done most of it to learn and collect new tools :-)
Ditto. They are definately not something you expect to get your money back out of. They become more of a family member. Mine will go around 35k in hard dollars plus hundreds of hours.
when im done restoreing my truck i figure it will be around 15k or so, the 390 has a cost me about 3k and its getting closer to being done, it pays off when you find cheap parts, the rest of the truck is where the money starts floating out of my wallet.
I have about $6,000 in the engine, $2000 in the paint and body work, $1,000 in the trans, and about $100 in the rear. Add another $500 for the electrics. I have about $4,000 to go before its all said and done I would guess. That is getting it to a maintenance only state. I will be dumping another $1000 into the heads someday to have them CNC ported.
I quit counting 10 years ago, before the 428 and twin trannys--I had over $8000 in it then. Oh yeah, I got it painted too! Both trans replaced, three speed twice!! I was fortunate to be working in a parts store with a machine shop during the 428 build!
oh about 5k in the motor i toasted bout $500 under the front end for suspension (springs ans ball joints were shot) couple hundred in shocks brakes and clutch than keeping it runin all told to date id say $8000 and it looks worse now than when i started now its three colors (light blue front, white box, and dark blue tailgate) but i love her and money is just that money who cares

i agree with you on that one, i have some friends that work at a auto parts store so i got some of my parts real cheap and also my dad and I have a welding repair shop so i did all the work in there and never had to buy one new tool.

No kidding. I've got $4k in just my shortblock, and I know Scouder is over that in just a block :-) (Not that working at a machine shop would make the Shelby block any cheaper). but, Ibet it helps with all thos little surprises.
